1. Describe your favorite pen: Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pens. In purple ink. (And I can't get any of them right now! weep)

2. Now describe your favorite mug: Definitely the Paladin of Souls mug. Has a picture from the cover on one side, in a 5-sided figure with the title and author around it, and the other side has a quote from the book. "And the Bastard grant us in our direst need, the smallest gifts: the nail of the horseshoe, the pin of the axle, the feather at the pivot point, the pebble at the mountain's pass, the kiss in despair, the one right word. In darkness, understanding."

3. Name one to three books you are currently reading. The Jeeves Omnibus by P.G. Wodehouse, and We Few by Ringo and Weber.

4. Is there something you liked as a child--a tv show, for example, or a food--that really embarrasses you now? What is it? I can't think of anything offhand. But then my mother reads this, and if there's something embarrassing to be thought of, I'm sure she will.

5. Is there something you liked as a child that you still enjoy? Lots of things. The chocolate addiction is certainly longstanding. What came to mind was salad with blue cheese dressing, and iced tea (no sugar). I remember going out to eat with my dad as a child, and when the waitress came I ordered, quite sure of what I wanted - she seemed to find this very unusual and funny, that I liked those things and knew what I wanted.

6. Name a fictional character (tv, book, or movie) with whom you have strongly identified, and tell why. Ekaterin, from _Komarr_ by Lois McMaster Bujold. Most of my friends know why. (If you know me but don't know the book, go READ it! Or chat with me and I'll give you good starting points into the series.)

7. What do you like to do on a rainy day? Stay inside with company, have something warm and cheery to eat, and relax. Maybe knit and watch a movie.

8. How about on a sunny day? Go out and do something, be out and moving.

9. Or when it snows? Wow, I haven't lived anywhere it regularly snows for a LONG time. I suspect go outside and throw a few snowballs, then come inside and do the things I'd want on a rainy day.

10. Is there a writer (or other kind of artist) of whose work you often say, "I wish I'd created that?" I can think of artists that make me wish I could create something as good - but I don't want to create their work, I want to create my own.

11. What kind of pet do you have, and what is its name? Three cats - Pouncequick, Rorik, and Karina

12. Do you like Valentine's Day? Eh, mixed feelings. I like it, I like to put effort into doing something nice for those I love - I wish more often people I cared about felt the same way.

13. How about Mother's Day? So far it's mostly been a serious effort, to make sure I'm remembering enough ahead of time to get something nice planned for my mother and to help my spouse plan something for his mother. It hasn't been for me yet.

14. Sex: a good thing, a bad thing, or just way too complicated for you to say? Like fire, both good and bad, depending on how it's used.

15. What are you looking for that you haven't found yet? At the moment, a nice battery-operated wall clock to hang in the nursery.

Is We Few as good as the previous ones in the series? I just saw it on the bookstore shelf the other day, but couldn't quite bring myself to shell out $26 for it, given the two hundred-odd books already on my "to be read" shelf.

Eh, mixed feelings. The battle scenes are all Weber, I swear. And I am beginning to think that Weber has seriously jumped the shark. I like his books, but man, the battle scenes are beginning to read like he uses a Mad Lib to set them up and just plugs in the appropriate numbers and ship names. The scheming parts and the characters we know interacting, Ringo stuff, are still enjoyable. He goes a long way before killing anyone on stage, Karl appreciated that.

I'd say get it from the library or wait for paperback, personally. But then I tend to prefer to get paperbacks anyway, although the library hardback in the bookstand-doohickey while I'm eating dinner does work nicely.
