Clocks and other stuff
Apr. 7th, 2005 10:18 pmThis afternoon, after designing a clock for the nursery on CafePress (which I haven't ordered yet - still dithering) I poked around some of the clocks other people did. I'm going to share some of the links. (Although honestly, some of this is so I can close all these windows and reboot this *&%)^*%$ machine)

bkseiver and
phoenix_singer, you'll probably be amused, too.

is what I've done for us so far. But I'll take other ideas.
I might want to use the compass clock elsewhere in the house, but not in the nursery.
The kids do regularly see the downstairs chiming clock from the living room. I definitely want them to learn to tell time on analog clocks, yes.

If this was a bad idea, let me know and I'll never do it again, but I thought since you were working on a project anyway it might help.

Date: 2005-04-08 06:50 am (UTC)If I do the "All True Wealth is Biological" clock, I'm actually pretty happy with the one I designed. That one is a variant of what I used for a shirt for Maggie to wear to the list party we hosted at FenCon. Her name is Maggie Rose, and she adores pink, so that's me acknowledging my own marvelous wealth. Plus I put the numbers on, see Mom's discussion with me about that above.
I'm trying to decide if I want to come up with any better idea for illustrating the clock. The room is done in blue with white sponged clouds, and Winnie the Pooh curtains. I can't do any WtP stuff, I don't have copyright, and the stuff already out there that I've found has been way too overdone for my tastes. I could do a blue clock with white clouds, but it might just disappear on the wall.

Since the clocks have strong black borders, I don't think it would blend into the backround. The problem would be that it would appear as if you'd wanted it to blend in but hadn't quite done the trick. Best to go with a clear, but coordinating contrast, as you've done. One possibility to tie the two together is to give the rose a soft matching blue backdrop that fades to white before it hits the numbers.
