I shall borrow a game from [livejournal.com profile] cawti

I give ten movie lines.

You guess what movie each line is from. If you are correct, you start a new comment thread with three movie lines. and so on. Everyone is free to guess on anyone's quotes.

I've picked some of my favorite movies, including a quote from my VERY favorite. Some of these I've "aimed" at particular people on my flist, oh yes. I expect they'll know them.

  1. What God and greed have joined together, let no love put asunder. - [livejournal.com profile] curiousmay9, Dangerous Beauty

  2. This is fate we're talking about, and if fate works at all, it works because people think that THIS TIME, it isn't going to happen! - [livejournal.com profile] carbonelle, Dead Again (My all time favorite movie!!)

  3. Oh, my Dear Friend, my heart was trembling as I walked into the post office, and there you were, lying in Box 237. I took you out of your envelope and read you, read you right there. - [livejournal.com profile] miari, Shop Around the Corner (an excellent movie, IMO. I really must get back to watching more Jimmy Stewart movies, as I've been intending to)

  4. Husbands should be like Kleenex: soft, strong, and disposable. - [livejournal.com profile] desert_vixen - Clue

  5. When one woman strikes at the heart of another she seldom misses, and the wound is invariably fatal. - [livejournal.com profile] ulfrikr, Dangerous Liasons

  6. The Irish are the blacks of Europe. Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. The Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. - [livejournal.com profile] prodigal, The Commitments

  7. If you do not surrender, I shall be forced to shoot you through the head with a rather large bullet.

  8. The man with the hatchet gets to pick the choicest cuts.

  9. Now, when I see a rose, that's perfect. I mean, that's perfect. I want to look up to God and say, "How the hell did you do that? And why the hell can't I do that?"

  10. But I'm convinced the theory is sound.

There are only a handful of movies that I love as much as I do books and so enjoy again and again (and can quote from). One of them is "Dead Again". So since there's no way I can play this (e.g. guess any of the others) shall I leave it to someone else to attach the movie to the quote?

Oh, you don't have to guess all of them. If it takes 10 different people that's fine with me. So go ahead.

"Dead Again" is my All Time Favorite Movie. There are others that are close, but Dead Again wins.

Whoops! Forgot the Next Part!

1. No. To the pain.

2. I only want to drain your vital essence

3. Laugh while you can, monkey-boy.

Yay!!

1. The Princess Bride, Wesley bluffing about the duel with Prince Humperdinck.

3. Buckaroo Banzai! A source of many lovely unusual quotes.

I can't think of #2, although I really feel I ought to, it's ringing a bell.

I'm not sure, but at a guess...[livejournal.com profile] carbonelle's #2 is from The Dark Crystal?

#4 is from one of my all-time favorite movies, actually.

Mrs. White in Clue.

I love that movie!

Yes! Great movie.

Oh oh - if you're ever up in Fort Worth with some time to spare, NOT on a Saturday (they close then for weddings and such) - go see Thistle Hill. [livejournal.com profile] phoenix_singer and I went there for the tour while she was visiting me, and it was great - SERIOUSLY reminded me of the house in Clue.

And they let me play their harp, so that was cool, too.

So go ahead and put 3 challenges of your own up!

6. The Commitments
10. Real Genius

6. Yes. I put that one in just for [livejournal.com profile] selenite, my dear spouse, who introduced me to it. I'll even watch it again with him, if he'll get the DVD with subtitles.

10. No. Or if it's in there, it's also in another movie, which I have.

Hmmm... although there IS top billing cast overlap between the two movies. Possibly the line was even delivered by the same actor in each - I've only seen Real Genius once, so I don't remember it in there or who said it.

Let's see if that's enough of a hint to help you find it.

10. Back to the Future

Nope!

You have, however, once again hit the same cast overlap between that and the movie for #10 as [livejournal.com profile] prodigal hit in his!

If the man actually delivers the same line in 3 different movies I shall be ASTOUNDED.

Darn it! I already said I yield, so I can't guess again... there are 2 more that I think MAY be it. Heck, I'd be sure to get it eventually. But, I said I yield, so I give up.

Nope. The actor in question was in a Batman movie (although I've never seen it, and it isn't the movie for #10) but not that one.

Think of it this way, you now have a recommendation list of interesting movies.

Although I will admit #9 is not for the squeamish. And has gotten a bit dated. It has definitely been an influence on me, though. I'm not sure how old I was when I first saw it, but I was too young, I don't know what my parents were thinking.

Yep, very good. I love the back and forth poetry scene. Especially the bit about Venice as mother goddess AND virgin.

Would you like to toss up some challenges of your own for us?
