Desk splinter fix?

I have a computer desk that is basically a wooden table, like a small old kitchen table. I like it, it's sturdy and plain. But the front edge is starting to get worn down, and is giving me splinters in the hands and arms. I'm worried about my toddlers getting splinters, too.
I need to laminate the front edge of it or something. But I don't specifically know what to do. I'd like it to not be too apparent and ugly, and it can't be terribly expensive. It can't be something that isn't safe around children who chew on things, or go through lots of nasty fumes getting put on. It should be doable by someone with no experience in furniture refinishing or anything like that.

Two ideas
Date: 2005-05-12 11:20 pm (UTC)If the dimensions are straight, not curved, you can get some narrow molding from the same place and nail it on with tiny finishing nails, then stain to match or paint some color you emote to.
Both easy projects.
