Fanfic, the virus

I just wrote fanfic. Dear me.

You fanficcers on my flist? This is totally your fault. You know who you are.

Well, it's also selenite's fault, he's been slowly getting me over to the Browncoats board, where there was a challenge posted about Wash and Zoe's wedding vows. I thought that sounded neat, but of course I am no fanfic writer, I told him. So we went upstairs to bed, and I was telling him all sorts of things about it. Little things about how I think it would have happened, and why, and a few catchphrases. And I couldn't get it off my mind. 12:30 in the wee hours and I couldn't get it off my mind. He sent me downstairs again to start writing it. This morning it totally ate my brain and I finished it. He said to submit it to the challenge, so I did.

Now, I'm still not a fanficcer. 'Cause I can't write anything that requires plotting. But this didn't. So it was cool.

I'm such a geek, I don't think most people end up with footnotes/endnotes in their fanfic, either.

I need a really good Zoe/Wash icon at some point. EDIT: Got one. Need MORE!

Yeah, well, I am on the edge of it, ain't I?

I expect my inability to write plots will keep me out of the depths.

But now I gotta figure out what to DO with this! selenite wants me to post it places, and I look at the info for the fanfic communities, and I'm totally intimidated. Ratings, some of which I guess it'd be G, others it'd be E, but I don't understand those. Disclaimers, titles, summary, pairing, characters, warning, spoilers/timeline, etc. It's harder than writing it was.

Find a small pool to play in. You know about my challenge_duck and there are others out there to get your feet wet among gentle people before you go braving the 1000+ person archives with the snarking and such.

For that matter, there's no reason to move past the kiddie pool. I haven't. 8-)

Um, no, I didn't know about that, really. Trying to read the profile. (This sort of thing always makes me feel I've wandered into something in a different language.)

So - anything that was written for a challenge can go there?

I gotta find a disclaimer I can borrow/adapt.

I was thinking of putting it up at the Zoe_Wash community, seemed like a good spot.

Skip past all the silly ducky nonsense and stop reading at the beginning of the definition of ratings.

Basically, we issue a challenge at the beginning (ish) of each month. all fandoms welcome, all styles, all ratings, art is welcome ... and a friendly soft crowd hangs out there. 8-)

Specific pairing communities are *always* good for cross posting and don't forget to post here in your own journal as well.

I'm thinking I'll post it here and maybe crosspost it a couple of other places.

But first I have to figure out ratings, title, write a disclaimer, all this complicated hard stuff! Mostly I need a disclaimer. Too new to all this, I am.

It's from Wash's POV, so the stuff about how Zoe goes from being bothered by him to being Bothered by him, no, that's not in there, sorry.

And/or, if you're really worried about it, post it with a lock and then you don't have to worry about it. We all know it's fanfic, and we all love you, and we'll think it's wonderful, and that's all there is to it, right?

Episodes require PLOT!

And for Firefly, they also require getting deeply into the character voices. That's part of what I love so much about Firefly. And why fanfic done RIGHT is so precious. Wash is the one I can easiest reach for the voice of, I think.

Have you guys watched any more of them? I am hoping to hear what you think of _Ariel_ when you get to it.
