Okay, having just made 4 tries to get this posted reasonably properly in a reply to comments on my previous post - which will send all those copies to those poor people trying to help me, sorry guys - I'm just gonna repost here.

People were recommending kneeling chairs. Karl just sent me links to a few of those, too. I think people mean this --->
or this

Trouble is, after a while in those chairs, I slump. And if I'm slumping, I'm still putting weight on the sacrum.

Karl found this one - and this one looks a bit more promising. But even that I think I could end up with weight on the sacrum.

Actually KNEELING on something on the floor, with my body straight from shoulders to knees, there's no WAY I can put weight on the sacrum.

Which is what I'm doing right now. Very comfortable to my lower back. But - my knees hurt. I'm trying to find something to make them comfortable. I'd say maybe I need to go talk to a Catholic, but I think they're not supposed to be comfortable when kneeling.

Have you considered some of those "donut" cushions that are produced for people who have shingles or hemorrhoids or the like? That could make a regular chair useful...

Getting something where you only "sit" on the edge of it, your sacrum hanging off the edge, could also work -- even if you slump, it'd be onto your thighs.

I'd suggest a bed-like arrangement for kneeling -- a "mattress" of some kind of firmsoft pad, such as a gymnast's mat, and then a cushion of some sort which is softer.

And then there's this: http://store1.yimg.com/I/comfortstore_1850_16986827
I found "kneeling chairs" much more comfy when I put my knees on the floor, my bottom on the knee-rest, and my chest on the seat, myself... No clue if that would work for you.

Ha, something like http://www.sitincomfort.com/sasest.html as a "position self so that sacrum is not on seat" suggestion.

Here are some of the Coccyx options: http://www.sitincomfort.com/cocusesucu.html

I found a site that has some "soft-but-firm high-density urethane core" pillows, including one relatively flat-but-long one, but the items are made for, ah, bedroom use and have matching non worksafe pictures. (On the other hand, if they're comfortable enough for bedroom use, they might be comfortable enough for general use, and they have a washable cover with a waterproof inner cover -- useful if kids spill something.)

I use a coccyx pillow like that for my kitchen table chair. Mom the Nurse said to avoid donut pillows - "we found out that cut off circulation to the area inside the ring, and were causing decubiti. Ugly to be able to see the sacrum bone from outside the body - trust me on that one"

The saddle one looks interesting, but definitely something I'd want to try out in person.

That one with the orange cushions, man, I can't even figure out how to sit in that!

Ewwww. I will keep the donut pillow warning in mind.

If you can surf that site, there are the most boggling chairs with the exercise balls as part of them. It's boggling.

I want to sit on stuff in their showroom. Or would if they had one.

maybe a pillow for the knees?

I used to use a chair like that for my computer station; it worked, more or less, but I really wasn't truly comfortable...

Maybe check out your local garden supply store? They have products to provide cushioning while kneeling on to garden.

That's possible. Most garden kneelers I've seen haven't been that robust.

Karl sent me this:
http://www.seemans.com/garden/kneeler.htm
and that's awfully tempting.

I've seen a similar one advertised in the US - big difference was plastic legs instead of the metal ones.

Do you have a link to see that last chair, the orange one? I could use something like that myself, bigtime!

Agreed about the kneeling chairs. Short term, my back loves them. Long term and my knees can't take it. But that orange one looks like it might be a good compromise.

That's the one. Ow, pricey. I suspect they're designed to work on traditional "lower back" problems, which isn't mine.

I'd go with the firm cushion/pad, speaking as a Catholic. Our kneelers are generally padded.
