This is so cool. This woman is running a website and store for women living with breast cancer. There's general info there, and a forum and such, and for women who have lost a breast (or two) she makes custom sized, colored, and heck, patterned, Tit Bits. Knitted alternatives to prosthetic breasts. She started when she was invited to a party post-masectomy, and was trying to get a prosthetic and a bra to wear with her fancy leather dress. She said it put her in tears, the prosthetic looked like liver and the bra like a Volkswagon suspension. So she started knitting.

Oh, those are great. She does them in various skin colors, sure, but then there are ones that are hot pink, pinstriped, one looks like a watermelon.

And for any women who knit or have friends or family who do, she has put the pattern up publically available on the Knitty site. I think this is great.

I hope if my flist knows anybody who could use this that they'll pass the info on.

Totally irrelevant, but mad icon love.

Thank you. It's a fun, silly game. It actually is relevant, in that it is the one icon I had with both yarn and breasts.

I'm sending this to my mom, the one who's lived and thrived through both mastectomies and who is knitting with a friend of hers these days. She will be either amused or appalled. I bet her friend will start making them though.

Reading this, I got a horrible yet irresistible compulsion to share the first obscenely-inappropriate question that popped into my head.

(You Have Been Warned....)

Does the watermelon-patterned version only come in large sizes?
