That was a little too exciting.

Karl had just set the kids up with bowls of macaroni and cheese for dinner in their high chairs, and came over to his computer to make some notes for his post-gaming-con report. I heard Jamie yell, looked up, and realized he'd just poured his bowl of hot macaroni and cheese down into the highchair all over his bare leg and was trying to squirm out of it. I shouted, "Karl!", ran over with him behind me, yanked off the tray and said "take him", and Karl had him unbuckled and out of it and on the way to the sink, saying, "sprayer!" and I'd reached in and switched the sink from filtered to full flow and had the cold water on.

I like having Karl as a partner. Four words between the two of us, a few seconds, and we had the kid out of the hot stuff and in the sink being sprayed down with cool water to stop the burns. It was clear it was better for me to grab the tray and let Karl grab Jamie, as I need to minimize lifting, especially after a post-surgery solo weekend which has worn me out. No discussion necessary, no Keystone cops routine.

After we got him well sprayed down standing in the sink, we identified a red burned spot on his knee, and took turns holding ice on it wrapped with his removed t-shirt. Jamie did not enjoy this. (Just as well - Karl had been hoping he wouldn't enjoy the sink routine, hate to give him positive feedback for this kind of disaster.) He reached over and managed to snag a ball of purple lopi yarn I had on the counter, and dumped it in the sink. "Revenge?" I asked. "HA!" said Jamie. When Karl went to take him back to the high chair, Jamie tried to take a swing at me. No, clearly he did not enjoy this.

Sorry to hear of the macaroni mishap! You're right about that being an exemplary moment of partnership, though. And what a great icon for the post!

Hope everybody's doing a wee bit better after all that excitement.
