I want to go see a movie.

There's two movies out right now I want to go see, and three more coming out on December 9th.

I could go. I could ask Karl to take care of the kids and send me. But then I have to go alone. And that's not much fun.

Pooh. This is a big chunk of why I don't see many movies.

I used to not like to go alone, but it became a necessity for us as well. Now I guess I see it as a "me" treat...sometimes I'd rather go alone, now. At least that way I don't have to interrupt the movie for fifty potty breaks. :)

If you frame the problem in terms where you're screwed if you either go or don't go, I'm not sure what anyone including Karl can do.
