Darn it, Friday night and nobody wants to chat with me. Oh well.

I have been cleaning up some, and also doing some more work on one of the massive Xmas projects. I'm only doing 2 this year. All of my fiber arts are terribly behind this year, with the surgery and such. So anyone who might have been expecting such a project from me? Sorry, not this year.

Except this one project. Which is starting to eat my brain. I worked on it a bunch today - then found out I'm going to have to yank a section out and do it over. Gah gah gah.

I haven't gotten to start a new project for absolutely ages, months. So tonight I am rebelling, and just for the heck of it I am starting a lace scarf, from a pattern [livejournal.com profile] bkseiver recommends.

Except... well, it has 8 rows of garter stitch top and bottom, and 5 stitches garter stitch each side, so it won't roll. And I was starting it, and thinking oh I hate garter stitch, hate the way it looks and feels, but yeah, I don't want it to rolll... pity, ribbing is the other thing that won't roll and it wouldn't work with this, no, but man, hate garter stitch... and it occurred to me. Moss stitch. Doesn't roll, I like it better. Yeah, it's harder, but who cares about THAT. So I frogged it and started over.

Correction: seed stitch. I always get those two confused.

[livejournal.com profile] selenite is right - I am incapable of doing a pattern exactly as written, I always change it.

Oh, and GIP, 'cause it's pretty.

Oh, I wish I could crochet! My mom was a big crocheter, but then there was the whole mother-daughter dynamic and suffice it to say I emerged thinking I could never learn to crochet.

You could learn. I did manage to learn crochet from my mom, but was stumped on knitting. Years later I tried a couple different times - and never did it long enough to get it down, I'd try to go back to it and I'd forgotten. I finally learned it well. The fiber arts are popular enough these days that there's lots of local yarn stores which have classes. I know several near me.
