Bye bye Caid
Sep. 6th, 2003 10:48 pmToday we went to the last part of a SCA event, sorta to say goodbye.
We'd hoped to go to this one for a long time, since some friends of ours were being elevated to Baron and Baroness of Angels. We've known Jay and Sue for ages. I met them back in '91.
I knew I wasn't up to a full day event, and they weren't stepping up until closing court, so we got there in the late afternoon. Got to visit with various people, and see the court, and hang out and talk to people some. Saw a lady I knew back from Septs of Leix, the harper, and gravitated over to her and her Triplett Axline - yes, the same model harp I had, but I had to go see it and play a bit anyway. Sigh, need more time with my harp. Saw the Heddens, Phil and Diane and their daughter Gwenna. Gwenna's 5 months younger than Brendan, and had wanted to see him. They were off together most of the time - I caught a glimpse of them returning from the bathroom, and saw her leading him around, hand in hand. They were so cute together. I got to show Maggie off to lots of people, and tell people that we were moving out of kingdom. I am going to miss Caid. We saw Arnett and Jane, haven't seen them in ages, and Ann was there, and Russ - don't think I've seen him since '94. Jim got together a group of us to do some group pictures - first time we've had so many Roebuck associated people all in one place for a long time. I'll have to get the pics emailed to me and count, and I know there were at least 4 or so that didn't make it into the picture.
The whole thing made me feel pretty wistful, I am going to miss people. Then again, given how many of these people I haven't seen in many years, I probably wouldn't get to see them for years again anyway.
Maggie seemed a bit overwhelmed by all the people, wasn't smiling as much as usual. Had some fun, though. Got to run around in the park some, with Karl chasing her. Sat in Diane's lap (on her scooter) for a while - Diane was telling her to pretend to drive - dunno if she understood things, but she said something that sounded like "go", so Diane drove her around in a circle. Also, saw her say what sounded like "no" to something while shaking her head, and I've seen that a couple other times in the last few days, so that's encouraging.
Sigh, I'm sure there's more I should be writing about this, but I'm getting very sleepy, and Karl's zonked out on the couch. Pumpkin time.
