weather

I just started hearing the oddest sound - thought to myself, is that rain? No, doesn't sound right for rain. I went and looked out the kitchen windows. Well, what's hitting the kitchen windows looks like rain, but when I look carefully I can see the little ice crystals bouncing off the neighbor's roof. Well, it is 28 degrees out. It's not coming down very hard, fortunately. Hope this doesn't mess up driving too much. Ah, the weather program calls this "light mix". Lovely. Freezing drizzle this morning, light wintry mix this afternoon. Today and tomorrow's high will be 32. Chance of snow tonight 80%, low 18 degrees.

Sigh. I have places to GO this evening...

EDIT: Now the upstairs north nook window has a layer of ice on it. Great.

On average NO ONE in DFW knows how to drive on ice.

STAY HOME !!!

I'm probably headed home by noon myself.

Aaaaghhh.... it's WEDNESDAY

That means Maggie's Adventure Club this evening, then choir practice for me, and over to friends' house for movie night afterwards.

My one and only chance for social time all week. And Maggie lives for Adventure Club.

"Light wintry mix" sounds like something you serve at bridge parties.

Sadly, it means I don't get to go to any party.

I just got an email that all the church events tonight are cancelled. Jamie's speech therapist called and cancelled. And Karl doesn't want us to go to our friends' movie night.

I am not happy.

Unfortunately, people still expect to get a paper tomorrow, so that can't be cancelled, much as I'd like to bundle up and settle in for the day (a co-worker announced plans last night to do that, but it's her "weekend").

Texas Driving Deficit

Sorry, dear. Your friends are ABSOLUTELY right - Texans have a real driving deficit when there is the least bit of frozen precip. And this storm was a real lulu when it hit Denver. The national news said you are supposed to start snow just about commute time. Now, I know a gal with a degree from Michigan State can drive on snow over ice - and so can a MIT engineer - but the idiots coming at you sure can't! Be safe and talk with the kids about the wonders of winter - one-of-a-kind snowflakes, etc.

Eh, the MIT one isn't so sure. But with church stuff cancelled, if we do go, we'd be one-car-ing it and I'd be driving. Karl said he'd think about it.

It gets *lonely* here...

Fortunately a couple of years in Nebraska had given me some experience. Not a fun drive at all.
