Okay, that was sad. Earlier today Maggie was playing on the piano, and asked me to come play on my harp for her. She's not allowed to touch the harp.

So I did.

I had to *dust* her. (The harp. Not Maggie. [livejournal.com profile] selenite found that confusing earlier) I tuned her and and played around a little.

I seriously need more time on my harp. At least I do now know I can handle the harpstool again. I couldn't for quite awhile due to coccyx problems and surgery recovery.

Just now the kids were stable and happy, so I went back to the harp and started repracticing some of my favorite piece of music for her, which I had handy. I want to find the harp music and start practicing again. (And get those boxes OUT of the corner next to the harp, so I can get to her more easily)

I shouldn't, I suppose. I have so much housework I should be doing, and I have knitting commission work I should be spending every spare moment on. But it did feel nice.

Yep, that'll make a fine tombstone -- She did lots of housework really good. :)

Go, you! Go, music! Enjoy yourself.

(Sorry, I don't know you well enough to tease you, but what a delightful talent, to play the harp. Dishes? Bah. Any fool can do dishes.)

It's not like I play well enough to go do gigs. I did play at an SCA pentathalon, but that was years ago.

And there is no fool showing up willing to do my dishes for me...

Second that! I wish I were close enough to offer to *do* the dishes while I listened to you play the harp. I'd consider that a fine trade. :)

oooh, you are so overestimating my harping ability. I've been out of lessons for 3 1/2 years.

Heh, while I *can* listen to you play while I do my dishes. Although more often I'm listening to you play while I'm working on a knitting project in my study.

I've heard from several people that our music makes good "background", but it's usually been to computer work, not knitting. S'nice to know, thanks!

Cflute, whose "chops" need serious reviving also.

Hmmm... you know, here I am going through my filk songbooks trying to decide what songs I want to take with for the housefilk tonight - it amuses/annoys me that the song "Flatten the Tune", with the 2nd verse "get me the tune, get me the tune" does NOT have sheet music, only lyrics... did no one else seem bemused by the irony?

No one else has ever mentioned it, that I can recall. You're right, though - it is an amusing bit of irony! :)

But this _is_ housework -- after all, the harp is part of your home, so you need to use it so it doesn't get so dusty next time, and you need to play it so it stays in good shape....

...you're not buying this, are you?

(I'd classify it as switching a segment of your day from housework to childrearing, anyway, since Maggie requested it.)

I'd be more likely to buy it if I ever got enough housework done to get to "dusting".

Okay, I so knew that you were talking about the harp.....hmmmm...maybe sometime we can schedule some time to sit around and noodle. I have 2, and playing the girls has not been a priority in years....it would be fun to try again.

Sigh, you just made me think of an ex-girlfriend of mine (25 years ago!) who played the flute and the (concert) harp (but not at the same time).

Hm, my mother [livejournal.com profile] bkseiver plays flute, but not I.

I do have a nice piece of music scored for harp and flute...
