Planning the drive

Okay, while Maggie was napping Karl and I sat down and went over the AAA Triptik to plan the drive.
I'm not supposed to do more than 5-6 hours of driving a day, per my midwife. (And the trip up to Santa Maria made me realize she's totally right. Even that much is going to be hard in my condition) I'd looked briefly at the triptik when it arrived, and had made some guesses about where we wanted to stay each night. I figure we better make reservations, given we'll be travelling with the cats.
So we went through it in detail, Karl writing out mileage numbers and calculating possible days. It comes out with the first two days the toughest, the third easier, the fourth even easier. Which is probably best. First day, here to Phoenix. Eastern end of Phoenix, I'm thinking Chandler. 2nd day, there to Las Cruces, NM. Third day, to Odessa, Texas. 4th day, to Fort Worth.
The first day is going to be particularly bad in that it's the one day I have to worry about hitting rush hour traffic at both ends. We're going to be starting from a hotel out here - I figure the day before we leave is the day the movers are packing the house. That day, early as the hotel will let us, we bring the cats, harps, our stuff, and Maggie to the hotel. Possibly one of us stays there, but probably we leave the cats there and bring Maggie back at least part of the day. We can alternate who's playing with her and who's supervising packers. I figure I tell them to do the garage first, master bedroom and living room last, to maintain her play area as long as possible. Karl suggested we might want to get a hotel room farther east to make the next morning's drive easier - but that makes logistics of packing day harder. Maybe we just get up super early and try and head out *before* rush hour gets going.
I'm amused by the final choice of stopover locations. Those are the same ones that I'd decided on after a couple minutes quick perusal of the triptik. It's interesting - I tend to look at things and am more likely to make a snap decision on fairly little data. Karl's more likely to research and analyze and come up with the numbers to back up the answer. But it's so often the same answer from us both.
Now if we can just get Packing Day SET, then I can call and make hotel reservations in all these places. Hopefully tomorrow Karl can get back to badgering the Northrop people about the last move details, then once those are agreed upon, make the packing day reservations with the moving company. I'm feeling stuck on not being able to get more details done.
