I am so lucky. I know so many people that do not get along with their parents, or do not get along with their in-laws. And I do with both.

My mother-in-law is such a lovely lady. I just spent a long time on the phone with her, having a lovely chat. We talked about everything from the plans for the drive to Texas, to the houses I'm looking at, to studying history, to how Maggie's doing, to the plight of orphans and disadvantaged people in various parts of the world and what can be done to help them, to the hurricane currently bearing down on the east coast and how this affects her battening down the hatches and what it will do to her work schedule, to the historical huge hurricane that hit her town in Long Island back in the 30's, and more. Whee, that was fun.

And she's planning to come out and help baby-watch while we're first in Fort Worth. Wonderful.

Oh, I told her about something I was reading in a book about the sacrifices of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. For one signer, it mentioned how his father died when he was six, but his mother ensured he still got an excellent education. I immediately thought of my mother-in-law, doing the same thing for Karl.

Marvelous woman.
