fordprfct has gotten me started on reading the Narbonic webcomic.
I just got to the Narbonic Coat of Arms. Maggie looked at it and pointed, and said "oh dear. That's terrible. Right?" Oh, our herald friends would be SO proud of her - it IS terrible.
So far as I recall my heraldry, the description was accurate, and with the possible exception of the "gerbil sejeant proper", follows the rules of SCA heraldry in terms of no tincture-on-tincture and no metal-on-metal.
It is rather ... busy... though. And why, if it's the Narbonic coat of arms, is the label above the shield, de Nabronne? (note swappage of 'b' and 'r' between the two).
I am dubious about the existance of a "proper" tincture for an alchemical flask, and even if there is, Or [gold] is probably not it. Particularly on a bend sinister of the same tincture. Big no-no.
Letter transposition happened all the time. See the Scottish family of "Turnbull" and all the variations of the name, such as Trimble.
But it runs in the family. I Seem To Recall getting her big brother started on the Rule of Tinctures at around the same age. Dark on light, light on dark and all that... hehehe
It look hideous to me, starting with the use of the gerbil and whip as heraldic charges. Furthermore, the whip depicted is a cat-o-nine, which I associate more with S&M than with heraldry. But then again, I'm a pervert, or so I'm told. The alchemical flask issue has been raised already.
Personally, I find the use of practically ANYTHING "proper" to be obnoxious in the extreme, never mind this many charges.

I wonder if the SCA CoH has ever asked the Crown to rescind an AoA over excessively bad heraldry?
