Meme snared from [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat - sure, why not

Look through your LJ calender and post an entry from this day (or the nearest day with an entry) for all the years you've had a livejournal. If all your entries that day are dull, I give you license to look at 2 days either side.

August 18th, 2005: A whack in the cause of righteousness

I'm mostly too sick to keep up on things online today - I have had a turn for the worse. But I did want to share an amusing story from the other day.

Maggie had requested Harry Potter, so we were letting the kids watch the first video. [livejournal.com profile] selenite and I were on the couch, and the kids were mostly curling up with us on it. It got towards the end of the video, where Harry has gotten through the challenges and is confronting Quirrell, who has declared no, HE was trying to kill Harry in the Quidditch game, and just generally being The Evil Bad Guy Revealed At Last.

Jamie, with a determined look on his face, got down off the couch, walked up to the tv, and WHACKED the image of Quirrell. Then he came back and climbed back up on the couch, looking satisfied with himself, as we laughed.

(Hm, I must get a more recent Jamie icon up. When I'm healthier.)

August 19th, 2004: undignified landing

The cat fell off the upstairs hallway ledge-over-the-stairs today, down onto the tile in the foyer. We'd been saying since we moved in that was going to happen. This is Karina, the younger female. She likes to sit up there. Dunno if she will any more. She knocked some things down, and then came hurtling after them, which scared the HECK out of me. I was in the foyer with Maggie at the changing table. Fortunately Brendan was in the bathroom, so he won't have gotten any Ideas. She landed on the foyer tile, on her side, NOT on her feet. She ran off and was making unhappy noises. But when I went to check on her, she was eating the leftover pot roast from Maggie's plate that we'd set down for the cats, and on stroking her I couldn't find any obvious injuries.

Except the obvious hit on her dignity. Then again, this is the cat that's been putting up (mostly) with Brendan carrying her around lately, so presumably that was already a lost cause.

August 19th, 2003: I miss my string....

Sigh. You know, "textile artist" was supposed to be a big part of my identity, really it was. And even after Maggie was born, once things settled down, I was getting in usually an hour a day of good work. But since I've been pregnant with little Thumper, I haven't gotten diddly done. Not my embroidery, knitting, bobbin lace, anything. (I expected not the weaving - inkle looms poke RIGHT into the pregnant belly, thanks but no)

All that time working at being smarter than string... (and, as my textile friends say, that's some smart string)

Of course, now the excuse is not just the pregnancy, but all the craziness of hoping to move soon, and trying to do what prep for that I can.

I am determined to get SOME time back on my work, somehow. Really.

In 2002 I didn't start the journal until September:
September 8th, 2002

What a cool world it has become. I just got an email from someone that used to work with my dad. She googled his name, and found my wedding webpage. And then emailed me. So I've forwarded it on to Dad. She said that Dad used to talk about me and my sisters all the time, and she'd wondered how we'd turned out.

Dad was apparently her first supervisor at the company - irony is that he's still there. That's a rarity these days. He's been working there - well, for that company, anyway, albeit in two different states - for thirty years.
