[livejournal.com profile] selenite has sent me several interesting links recently. A couple of them I've been holding on to, hoping to write up a thoughtful, reasoned response to them. But - I keep being too tired out. So I'll just post the links and see if I get to it later. Or not.

http://www.tasteslikephoenix.com/articles/women.html An article on women and gaming. Although I had to turn off the browser's loading images so I could READ it, that background image is ow on the eyes. The all-women gaming group sounds rather interesting. I wish I could get the Gregory Miller book mentioned in the bibliography at the end, but the library doesn't have it.

http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/2006-11-12-1.html Building Better Children article by Orson Scott Card. There are various things I do not agree with Card on, but generally I agree with what he writes on child-rearing. The parts at the beginning about best and good and all that leave me thoughtful about myself - the quote "If your measure of "accomplishment" consists of being noticed by others, you're doomed to disappointment." - oh yes, that's been a hard thing to get over. The rest of it, I'm agreeing with, and it's reminding me to feel pretty good about myself as a parent. Oh, I could do more of the "play with them" part, but being so sick and tired has really cut that back lately. They do have each other to play with, though, and they do, and they enjoy it, and I encourage it and let them go at it.

http://www.dansimmons.com/news/message/2006_09.htm an author's blog entry about building dream houses. The descriptions of Mark Twain's house are fascinating. I want to be able to see more details floorplans and pictures!

You're welcome.

I'm looking into incorporating some of this into the house we build.

I was just there a month or so ago. It's about two hours south of me.

The house is truly fabulous; definitely worth a visit. This weekend, I'll take a look at the info I got from the house and see if there are pictures in there that aren't available to the website. If so, I'll try to scan them in for you. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take pictures inside the house.
