We had candlelight service at church this evening - Maggie was up with the other little kids singing "Away in a Manger" at the beginning of the service. She did very well. We got to meet her godparents' son, wife, and child.

We met up with [livejournal.com profile] fordprfct for dinner out afterwards, and then came home and Maggie and Jamie got to hang up their stockings. Maggie was so thrilled. She's been asking "Is it bedtime?" all day. Jamie kept trying to figure out how he was supposed to wear his - was it a hat?

Then [livejournal.com profile] selenite sat in the comfy chair under the stockings and read them "A Night Before Christmas" as their bedtime story. He noted that Mama was indeed wearing a kerchief. Daddy was not wearing a warm winter cap, but I *was* engaged in knitting one at the time.

Once the kids were safely in bed, many presents came out of hiding. [livejournal.com profile] selenite, with the assistance of [livejournal.com profile] fordprfct, is now undergoing the Traditional Holiday Ritual of assembling the complicated child gift - in this case, a small trampoline for Jamie.

I have been sitting and watching, while knitting the hat, thanks much. I decided we needed a soundtrack, so put on my holiday channel on Pandora. (Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat for introducing me to that)

Comments so far:
[livejournal.com profile] selenite:"Okay, I take back that bit about I could've assembled this myself."

A bit later, [livejournal.com profile] fordprfct:"You know, I was all cavalier about this when we started." [livejournal.com profile] selenite:"I'll point out I already took back my wise-ass remark."

They finished up with an enthusiastic recommendation of the Bigger Hammer Theory.

Now we need to wrap it, dig out a few more hidden presents, and Stuff the Stockings. And see if I can finish the hat for the morning.

Nice happy traditional evening here. Merry Christmas to you all.

So during the assembly process was the magic phrase "Instructions ? We don't need no steekin instructions" uttered ? :-)

Oh goodness, no. However, I seem to remember the following phrases (or close approximations) being used:

"Okay, I had my turn at the instructions, and goofed it up. Your turn again."

"Wait a second. If we continue like this, the frog will be sideways, no matter which way we go. Time to pull it apart again."

"What? No. The instructions said to lay them that way. Which is clearly wrong. But consistently so."

Yep. We also read all the warnings that came with the instructions, with particular note taken of the ones which referred to parts that didn't come with this trampoline, such as a safety net.
