Birthday present painting

I don't know if I'm going to be able to manage to have Maggie's birthday present done by the time the day comes around or not, given the level of chaos and health issues going on in my life right now. But - we at least started making progress.
She's getting a tea party table. Some time ago,
fordprfct and I were out with Jamie while Maggie was with
selenite, and we found an unfinished furniture store and found a darling little table and pair of chairs. They've been sitting in his garage until I could get to work on them.
Some time ago I'd ordered a bunch of Wallies. I have stars that are supposed to go on Jamie's bed, and several designs I'd ordered for Maggie. For Easter she got great big butterflies on her walls.
This project is going to use pastel hearts, and a tea party set they may have stopped making, because I can't find it.
Since we finally FOUND the wallies again a few weeks back, thanks to people who came and helped clean house, I'd been hoping to work on it soon. Yesterday we did.
fordprfct had gotten them upstairs at his place, so after my appointment we went over there and had Maggie downstairs reading while we did layouts until we were happy with them, then took cameraphone pics to save them, and planned out the paint colors.
Then a visit to Lowes. Whew. Well, the midwife said some walking around would be good for me. I got lavender, pink, and ivory paint (Laura Ashley colors,
bkseiver may be interested to hear), and all the associated STUFF, brushes, pans, drop cloth, lacquer, etc. They give you a cute little gadget to open the cans these days, along with the stir sticks.
By the time we got back to the house I was wobbly and exhausted and required immediate collapse. But after being spoiled by a lovely homecooked meal, I was up for more.
selenite took the kids home to bed so they couldn't see any of it, and a first coat of paint was put on surfaces. The chairs will be the trickiest - the table and legs come apart, so can be painted separately. It's all going to need multiple coats and multiple stages for the different colors on different parts. Then there will be applying the wallies, and getting it all lacquered - I will NOT be there for that part. I do need to find as many chances to get over there out of her sight and work on it as I can.
It's not going to be perfect - that's not the point, this is something being made for her by her family who loves her. But I do hope she's going to like it a lot.
