I got a call from my doctor's office this afternoon. They have the report back, why yes, I do have a dislocated coccyx. They'd like to refer me to a specialist. I like the sound of this. The person that deals with their referrals is out until Monday, but I should be hearing from her early next week. Okay, sounds good to me.

The surgeon who fixed my neck has been just great, before and after. Viere at Baylor in Dallas.

Your spinal injury is, admittedly at the other end of the stack but still...

It wouldn't hurt to have a back up plan and/or a source for a second opinion.

Oh, good. Hopefully the specialist will be able to figure out how to fix it. If it's just dislocated that should be completely fixable (I hope, I hope).

I'm just going to figure at the worst you're looking at amputation, and a more harmless thing to cut off I can't imagine.

Hm, from what I'm reading on that site that [livejournal.com profile] technomom sent me to, best I'm looking at might be amputation. Looks like if I need amputation, getting stuck with inexperienced docs who want to just stick me on meds and "deal with it" could be the annoying thing.

To me, yeah, it's a vestigial structure causing a problem, amputation sounds reasonable. I tend to have odd results for that - I had my adenoids out at 3, but still have my tonsils. So sure, keep the appendix and lose the coccyx.

If that happens, I'd have to jerk newbies' chains now and then, tell them that I used to have a vestigial tail, but it got dislocated and caused pain so they amputated. I'll have the scar to prove it. ;-P
