Okay, that's IT, we're throwing this black phone AWAY! It just rang - mind you, it's been on the charger all day - I picked it up, said hello, heard "Hi, it's Judy from Dr. Pars-" and it died.

I know [livejournal.com profile] rlseiver and [livejournal.com profile] bkseiver have a pair of vtech cordless phones like mine that work just fine. But this one is AWFUL. IIRC, we've already replaced the rechargable battery in there once. This thing is just a damned lemon.

Ironically, the old bigger cordless phone that we've had for years, which had been in the study and has recently moved to the library, works great. It was boxed for a year or so, and we did get a new battery for it when we started using it again, and it's held charge great since then.

Anybody want to recommend anything good?

I dunno, sometimes I think, what with the promotional cheap period on our phone service through the cable company going away next month, maybe we should just kill the landline entirely. I suck at carrying my cellphone around all the time, though - the things really are designed for geek guys who always have pants/shorts with a belt for the case.

I've had similar problems with a phone I got a year or two ago. It was a brand spanking new 2.3 GHZ cordless that just would not hold charge at all, even when the battery was replaced. I've just been borrowing one of Mary's phones when I need to make a call, or using the lined phone I got for testing purposes. Currently, what I'm thinking about doing is seeing if I can track down a battery for my old AT&T cordless phone, which after all I used for 12 years or so before I had any problems, just throwing it back on the cradle when it wasn't in use (and the problem seemed to just be the battery not charging).

But sorry, no recommendations for anything new and portable. I don't remember the brand on Mary's phones, but I think at least one of them was a dud. I think quality assurance on modern consumer electronics these days just sucks. If I wind up having to buy a new one I'll probably try going with either Sony, since I've had good luck with other products of theirs, or back to AT&T, who, after all, have had more experience with phones than anyone. (Perhaps I'll try and do like I did with the original one, and spend my points from my AT&T Universal Card on it)

Here I always thought they were designed for women who always carry purses.

When I first got a cell phone, I had to go buy belts and develop the habit of always wearing one, so that I had something to clip the case to. Now, of course, it's all second nature and I'm just another one of those geek guys with a utility belt.

Purse works okay for a travelling purse - but not as a substitute for a landline, really, because generally I'm not all that near my purse at home, and I'm not going to hear it ring there if I'm in another part of the house, and if I did, I couldn't get there in time to answer it.

Most women's clothing is designed without belt loops. I struggle to find outfits with pockets. Most pants I find with pockets are shallow enough that the cellphone falls out too often - I am SO glad that [livejournal.com profile] fordprfct spotted where mine had fallen out right behind the van's wheel.

Fiber art - well, any art form that uses fiber. Ones I practice, either currently or in the past - spinning, inkle weaving, tablet weaving, lucet, bobbin lace, crochet, knitting. Some others I don't - macrame, kumihimo, tatting, etc.

No, I live near Fort Worth.
