sore knees

Wow, whatever I did to my knee over the weekend - and yeah, overwalking it Saturday is probably it - it's really bothering me now. I'm having a bad time all morning so far with it. Getting up and down the stairs is particularly bad. I suspect I'm going to give Brendan a bunch of up and down stairs jobs wherever I can. Since the kid is home for the week on vacation - summer school starts next week - I might as well put him to work. I let him sleep in this morning, though.

I think part of what makes it so bad is that whenever I get up from the floor with a baby, there's this stage of it when I'm putting weight on the knees at the same time as twisting through the knee. I think it's really bad, but I haven't figured out how to avoid it. In a minute I think I'm going to limp into the kitchen for some ibuprofen.

Gak, just realized I've got three kids who have not had baths yet today - I'm going to have to carry the littler two upstairs at some point, and then flop onto my knees with them by the tub, kneel through bathing them, and then lift them back out of the tub as I rise from my knees. Ow. Ow. Ow. In addition to all the other baby lifting.

*hugs* Let me do the lifting when I get home, okay?

Once you get home, dear, I will happily hand all lifting over to you. You can even take all the diaper changes. I love you.

Ouch! Listen to your husband, sugar. The world will not end if they don't get baths 'til tonight. It will be more efficient, too. They'll just play and get sweaty during the day, right?

Well, I already did the babies. I do try to keep them clean, especially in the warmer months. And unfortunately there's something about Maggie's hair - if she's slept on it, it invariably looks like it hasn't been washed in a week or so. So I try hard to do her in the morning.

I may hold off on Brendan. I don't have to carry him, but I do end up on my knees some in helping him. These days when he's going to school, usually Karl gets him in the shower with him, but we let him sleep for vacation.

I hope you have a pillow to kneel on while you're doing this!

Okay, that's it, I'm good and distracted now!

Excuse me, I'm going to need a brain reboot before I can get anything else done.

Would a footstool be useful, to sit on it instead of kneeling by the tub? Cheap plastic ones at Walmart... O:> (I use one when sifting the litterbox, myself.)

I used to use Karl's old folding couchchair thing for bathing the kids. I'd end up sitting on it with my knees spread as wide as possible so I could get myself far enough forward to get to the kid being washed. It was rough on my hips. I have seen things that have a pad that goes over the edge of the tub and connects down to a pad on the floor to kneel on, something like that would help.

But it's so hard to go out shopping with these kids, and there aren't any great baby specialty shops nearby.

Why go out?

Why on earth would one leave the house to do shopping?

I think the first one might be better...but the second one might help too.

I get their catalog and while I don't buy too many things from them I have found those things I have bought to be pretty good quality.

Thanks, I've forwarded this to [livejournal.com profile] selenite. I'm tempted by their snug fit tub, too. Wondering about setting something up so I could actually let the kids play in the water - we tend to have a very efficient, running water, get in there, wash the hair, scrub the body, rinse the body, rinse the hair, turn off the water, get out type of setup. The trouble with the actual BATH type bathing is I've never figured out how you can get really clean while sitting in still water. You're sitting in your own dirt and suds. Never have gotten that.
