Yesterday was the ORAC meeting. Due to lack of advance planning on our part, and being unable to reach the sitter by phone, Karl sent me to the meeting and stayed home with the kids. I had a good time, and am looking forward to FENCON!

I have decided THAT'S IT, I'm too frustrated from hearing everybody talk about Firefly and Farscape. I need to see these. I hope I can borrow DVDs from somebody. I'm still a bit nervous about is this okay in front of Maggie. If I can only watch it during Maggie-free time, it's going to take a long time.

I also want to go to the movies. Tim, our host for the ORAC meeting, showed me the trailer for Sky Captain. Oh, I wanna see this. They'd been talking about it during the meeting, and saying that the character Angelia Jolie played showed that she'd be perfect as Honor Harrington, if those books were ever filmed. I'd been saying I knew David Weber would explode if anybody tried that, he'd go completely postal. Then I saw the preview. Damn, they're right. What a shame.

It's opening next Friday. Generally if I'm going to see a movie opening weekend, I want it to be the FIRST showing in the morning on Saturday, which isn't going to be so crowded. Sadly, [livejournal.com profile] selenite is committed to go do a riverbank cleanup thing with Brendan and the Spiral Scouts group. AGH. I wonder if the group would like to work out another time.

There was also mention of the upcoming Halloween party. "Come as your favorite scary person". I don't know what to do for that. "SleepDeprivation Woman" is hardly a costume. ;-) I did have an idea recently for a costume party, but it isn't anything scary. It occurred to me this morning that if I could do up a Madame DuFarge outfit, I could bring my knitting... Must find costumers to consult with.

Oh, I don't know--"Sleep Deprivation Woman" might make a great Halloween character. Bags under your eyes, hair showing signs of being pulled with both hands...work on it, more details will come to you. <g>

Um - I have three children, two of them very young. I look like that EVERY DAY. Believe me, I could regale you with more details for a looong time.

Like this?

This outfit was a great success with my students when I was teaching the French Revolution--I doubt I'd be able to get away with it in today's schools, though! :)

I put the whole thing together for about $30--and mostly that was the cost of making Matilda (wig head, wig, paint). The actual clothing came from a thrift store--look for a long, blue-and-white or red-and-white striped skirt, wear it w/ a Ren-faire style chemise, and tie some red-white-and blue fabric strips around your waist for a sash (don't bother to hem, you're a peasant). The apron (you can't see it in this pic) is an unhemmed square of fabric tucked into the waistband of the skirt, and stained w/ red paint. The only part that required actual sewing is the hat--if you really want to do it, I'll bring the hat to Fencon to lend you (I'd bring Matilda, but she's hard to pack for flying).

You put all this work into avoiding politics and now you're going to dress up as a Republican three days before the election?

Why yes, you were the costumer I was thinking of, and I had just been looking at that picture. Wish there was more of you in the picture.

I have a blue skirt, but it's solid blue, and non-ragged. Thrift stores just don't carry skirts in my size! I oughta be able to dig up an old chemise. I must go rummage through my old SCA stuff. Wish I still had that crappy old bodice, sadly I think I tossed it. Apron I can do.

The hat might be very helpful, yes. Matilda, no - I will have my hands full of the knitting, after all.

That's it, ruin my costume idea. Remind me to whack you later.

Ha, a leftist radical fanatic revolutionary Republican. Well, it'd be a costume, for sure, none of the above could describe me!
