Felting

I'm attempting to use the washing machine to felt my first sample felted knitting piece.

Note to self: when the directions say "Fill your washer to its lowest level with hot water and a small amount of dish washing detergent." - they mean a smaller amount of dish washing detergent than I think they mean.

If anybody is visualizing a scene from a sitcom, no, not that bad. But it is going to take several cycles to rinse all that out.

Just as well, apparently it's going to take several cycles to make this darned thing felt properly, even with the boiling water and the ice water.

Um-- it's best to add the detergent once the tub fills to its desired level. *giggle* The bad thing is, your exit pipes are probably filled with foamy stuff, too. For some reason, regular bar soap blows away bubbles on contact, so you could try dropping a few flakes from a bar by scraping it with a knife.

See, that's what I get for following the directions.

I ran the thing through on two cycles, with boiling water added at the start and ice added at the end. And I still don't think the darned thing felted properly. I can still see where the stitches are. And the darned thing is incredibly fuzzy, which may just be the fault of the lopi yarn.

Did you add in towel or jeans to the load to help with the agitation?
