Maggie is on a SERIOUS Winnie-the-Pooh kick right now. Wants to watch the original Disney movie over and over again. Forget Blues Clues nowadays. The original is okay, but Brendan also has one of the video-only spinoffs, and that's awful. She gets the Tigger movie occasionally, too. She also finds our original Winnie the Pooh books and "reads" through them, pointing out the various characters in the pictures and naming them. I shall have to find her more Pooh stuff. Especially since the actual stuffed Winnie the Pooh in the house was given to Brendan prenatally, and really should go off with him.

There is much to be criticized with the Disney version of Pooh. VersionS, rather, since we have good animation, bad animation, and some sort of digital 3-D puppet animation ... Most of which ignore the source text.

But the original movie animation has one feature which, for me, makes it all, if not worthwhile, worth the experiment.

Eeyore's voice.

Heelloooo. Iiii'm fiiine. Why should youuuu care, annnnywaaaay? One more doooonnnnkey, moorrre or less in
this poooor, tiiiired worrrld -- what difference does it
maaaake?

There are days when I feel surrounded with people who share that attitude -- but flashing back to Eeyore floating down the stream on his back while Pooh and Piglet try to drop rocks on -- well, near -- him just somehow makes me smile instead of get irritated.

Heh, yes, I remember that story from the books. I've read some of the books to the kids, and will do more. (Right now we're in the middle of On The Shores of Silver Lake for our evening reads) And I must look for opportunities to teach Maggie Pooh Sticks.

Mostly I'm okay with the original movie - I like that you keep seeing the book. But the Gopher stuff, ugh. I wish they'd stuck with the original characters.
