Saturday's housefilk

For Saturday's housefilk - we'll be providing a couple of main dishes for the evening. I'll try to get lots of coke, too. If anyone else wants to bring side dishes, munchies, or dessert stuff, that would be excellent.

We do have one couple crashing at our place already. Especially given the weather, if anyone else would like to crash, let me know. We can rearrange the kids to clear out another bed, and there's a couple of couches available, or the proverbial sleeping bag. We have a couple, feel free to bring yours.

Yay bandwidth

The router is fixed. Many thanks to fordprfct for the tech support. Yay, both computers are back online.

Darts!

I got to play darts last night! Found a bar in downtown Fort Worth that was listed as having a "game room" with pool, chess, and darts. Well, I don't know about the first two, but they had a dart board at the end of the hallway upstairs. Good spot, it wasn't as smoky as the upstairs lounge, even if it did make for some silliness, hung on a door with an "Employees Only" sign. Nobody open that door! (Well, it had an intact sign at the beginning of the evening...)

I've missed darts. I used to play regularly in college. Never great at it, but I had a lot of fun. We own a dart board, but haven't had a good place to put it up since we left Lompoc back in '99.

Darts are fun. Nice pointy sharp thing, fling it into the board! Whee. And, as it was commented to me, in a competitive way!

I'd like to find a place to get our dartboard back up, somewhere, and get another set of darts to replace my old personal set.

Errands

I am TIRED.

I've been out running errands. A library run - they were closed for a staff training day, so I didn't get to pick up any of the stuff on hold, but at least I got to turn stuff in. A stop at Central Market for the good produce, Te Java, and some filo cheese appetizers for the housefilk. A stop for a quick drivethrough lunch for me, very late. Gas in the van.

Then the grocery run. WHEW. I figured this, sure enough, most of the town was going to make the same calculation I did. Yeah, last time it really sucked to try to go to the store after the freezing rain hit, let's go now before it and stock up. If I were smarter and had my act together better, I'd have left home earlier in the day and gotten done before it was quite that crowded.

Whew. So, very busy. I have diapers and such for the kids, food for the housefilk - rather more than planned, I got over enthusiastic - and plenty of food for us. Heck, if people all decide to crash here after the housefilk, due to weather, we will be able to feed them just fine.

selenite is my hero. He'd gotten home while I was at the store, I called him, and not only did he say he'd do the unloading, at my exhausted plea he came out to the store and helped me check out and load the van. I am very grateful.

Thoughts on a phrase

I'm thinking today about the phrase "don't take it personally", and why it bugs me.

Nobody has actually used that phrase to me lately. But it's been used on me a lot, I dislike it, and it's gotten to the point where if I think I see it coming I get cranky and defensive.

Thinking it over, really, if someone says that, what they're basically saying is "You shouldn't have feelings, because it's inconvenient for me."

I want to find strategies and answers so I can never let that phrase get used on me again.

Housefilk menu

Whee, food. I've gotten a bit enthusiastic shopping tonight. If I can get all the prep done, we will have two main dishes, an appetizer, and chex mix munchies.

Other side dishes or desserts would be welcomed. We have CocaCola and juice and tea for drinks.
