I've seen a few mentions on my flist about a "50 book challenge". Somebody want to give me some details on what this is about and where it's from? Is it just to list the first 50 books you read this year? Any book? Nonfiction books? Other details?

Thanks for any info.

I wonder about people who don't habitually read at least fifty books in year. Seems kinda weird to me.

apparently, 50 books is a lot for some people.

Yeah, that's less than one a week. I was wondering if it was maybe how quickly you went through the first 50 of the year? I dunno. There are nonreaders out there, but I feel sorry for them.

It has been a bit of a slow reading year for me so far, between trips and family stuff and all that, plus the usual baby busy, plus trying to spend as much of my free time as possible knitting. But still.

It's a livejournal community, [profile] 50bookchallenge where participants are challenged to read 50 books in one year. Not a big stretch for your friends and mine, although I would like to stretch my genre diversity a bit.

I guess reading 50 books I've never read before would be a stretch. Finding 50 authors I've never read before would be real work, and probably less fun. But any 50 books? Not among Our Kind.

Basically, it's an online group where folks read, write a little bit about what they are reading, and try to make 50 books in a year. If they do, then they usually keep documenting; part of the point is to see about books that you might not be aware of...

*snivel* I used to be able to read books... Now I read manga and graphic novels while waiting for the pick-up time for preschool. *cry*

I should stretch mine a bit, too - especially when I look at what I've read so far in January. It's mostly Heyer (the ones that have just been rereleased so I can own my own copy at last, bwahaha), and the Barbara Hambly books in the Benjamin January series that [livejournal.com profile] joyeuse13 hooked me on.

I'm certain there are fifty authors out there worth reading you may have never read before. Want to take it as a challenge?

I'm afraid I'm personally already committed to too much reading for my thesis to be close to doing it myself.

Lord it has been a long time since I read 50 new books in a year. Heck, I'm not sure I read 50 books in a year anymore even counting the periodic rereads of my favorites like Bujold and Lord of the Rings. (I am assuming that rereading the *new* Bujold over three times in the first few months doesn't count as three books)

This year, since Jan 1st, I have read two. That makes for an average of one book every two weeks or so for me.

I do read a fair amount of technical stuff and current events though.

*new* books? What's wrong with rereading? Okay, rereading the *new* Bujold over three times in the first few months I'd count as one, not three, but I'd count it.

I do a lot of rereading.

I think you're right. But my non-reading commitments are enough that I don't think I'll try.
