So the SixSoxKnitalong just posted Sock#Six.

It's a stranded two color sock. GAH. I weep. My style of knitting, how I hold the needles and yarn and move them, is fundamentally incompatible with the good methods of doing that kind of knitting. It's going to be miserable.

Yes, I could just not do it. But darn it, I'm an obsessive completist competitive type, and I've done all 5 so far. I went through all that stuff with the beaded sock, and then the spiral toeup sock, and gah, I can't stop now.

(But when this is done, I'm DONE. Most of the list wants to go on for another year - not me.)

So here's a couple links, because, O Flist, I want your input.

So what shall I do with this? Clearly I will NOT be doing anything sports team related. I have a fervent dislike for sports teams. There is NO WAY I'm knitting for them, especially not [bangs head again] stranded knitting.

I could do a pair for Karl in MIT colors and just have "MIT" on them, I suppose.

I'm certain there must be more creative interesting things relating to our lives that I could do. So, suggestions? Help me out here.

Advice from the ListMom's blog - "Knit the stranded sections much looser than you think you should." Oh, man, I am so so so dooooooomed. Doomy doom doom doomed.

Make socks for pirates! You know, black and white!

(Sorry, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm tired and wonky.)

Life is still to short to knit stuff you wouldn't be caught dead in. Even if it IS in LSU colors! Dad looked at the picture and said "Huh!"
I'll spend my knitting time on my shawl, thank you very much.

Suggest you pursue one of those lovely new sweater patterns.

No, no, it doesn't have to be in LSU colors. The sample one is, yes, and I thought of you and the Easter Star lady who's an LSU fan.

I can do it in any colors I like with any word(s) that will fit.

The best idea so far is maroon and gray for Karl, with MIT.

If I can find something else that relates to our life, has related colors, and has a word or phrase to describe it, that'd be good.

I do learn stuff from doing these. And I do want to be able to say I stuck with it.

Lots of other organizations have "colors" besides real-life colleges.

Harry Potter: Red and Yellow for Gryffindor, etc.

SCA: household livry, kingdom colors.

Yep, that's what I'm looking for, something with colors, and a phrase or word.

I'm not really heavily Potterized, although I suppose I could make one in Ravenclaw colors. Not sure what to write. "Ravenclaw" would be too long.

SCA colors would make sense - but again, not sure what to write. And really, since moving out of Caid we're not doing SCA anymore.

Depends on how large you make the letters I guess. RAVEN on one sock and CLAW on the other? Or maybe just the "student's" name.

You mean you hadn't already decided to do Vorkosisocks? No brown & grey? No Imperial red & blues?

We discussed Vorkosigan socks, yes. But what do I write in the stranded area? "Vorkosigan" would be too long.

I was going to suggest same.

Could you perhaps get the Maple Leaf in knit, or does it have to be a word?

I don't think it would fit.

I am planning a pair of socks in a maple leaf pattern in the future, in Vorkosigan brown. Those should be fun.

Just "VK"? Or "Miles"? (Or "Miles" on one sock and "Mark" on the other?) "Go Miles"? "WWMD?"?

Actually, I think you could fit "Miles Vorkosigan" into the space; you'd have to go all the way around the sock rather than repeating the design, but it should be possible.
