Wow, it's been a busy weekend. Let's see if I can recap Saturday.

In the afternoon I took Maggie out to run errands. Jamie was napping, so I left him to his Daddy's care. Maggie and I went to mail bills at the postoffice Then we went to the library, to drop off some items that were due that day and pick up some more. She was fairly good, although in that library she always wants to run off to the back where the windows look out over the grass and Hulen St. We stopped there a bit to let her look. Then we went by the Aaron Brothers' to get a lovely big photograph of Caernarvon Castle in Wales (that my grandmother Deam gave me years ago) framed. The first lady helping me didn't have any helpful ideas, and ended up handing me off to a guy - "can you help them with this?" she said, and he answered "sure - after you tell me where you got the hats!" I'd dressed Maggie in her new denim dress that day, and she had (rightfully, I think) chosen her blue and white crocheted hat to go with it, so I'd worn my matching one as well. Had a nice chat with the guy about the hat pattern, he's learned to knit so I assured him crochet wouldn't be hard to pick up, and recommended Jennings Street Yarns to him for help, the pattern, and the yarns. He found a lovely wood multilevel frame for Caernarvon. Now I just have to decide where to put it up.

After that we went to do grocery shopping and pick up food for the Housefilk we were hosting. It all took longer than I planned, and it was about a quarter til 7, the time of the housefilk, by the time we got home, very tired. The housefilk was fun, though. We ended up with the 5 other people we expected - Joe first, then the 4 Tyras showed up. Maggie was in heaven to have people over, and was running around chatting with people, showing them toys, "pouring them tea", and being generally imperious and bossy, especially to poor Joe. Jamie was being unusually outgoing, and his reaction to the Tyras's showing up was to run up to Gerry and reach out to be picked up, and get quite upset when Gerry tried to put him down. He got held for quite a bit. He hasn't usually asked to have others pick him up, but he sure wanted it last night.

Although it was in theory a houseFILK, since it was just us and we could come to consensus, over food we had Gerry play for us the first two episodes of the new Dr. Who series. I liked the episodes. Rose, the new companion, is cool. I thought she was going to be a blonde Hysteria Major type, and was expecting screaming and such, but no, she was really together. I liked her smacking the alarm and getting bystanders running away in the restaurant scene. When the boyfriend interacted with the dust-bin, now there should have been some screaming. Although I would have rolled up the car windows and started the engine. Karl says it's "a guy thing" and commented on the problems of being descended from monkeys.

Maggie watched the whole thing interestedly. She wanted to know the girl's name, and I told her it was Rose, just like she is Maggie Rose. This seemed to interest her. She apparently felt sorry for how upset Rose looked in the 2nd episode after the planet destruction, 5 billion+ years ahead, and said "go back in time!" Which they then did, and it was okay. At least I was pretty sure that was what she said, and afterwords Rhiannon was asking me if she'd heard correctly, that was what she thought Maggie said, too. So that shows more understanding than I'd have expected of her at this age.

After that we got into the filking - I requested some Dr. Who filk, and several were provided. The Tyras were singing The Time Lord Shuffle from - oh bother, I can't think of the filkers' NAME, mental block. I'm not sure if they sang the whole thing for me or just a selection. Joe sang a melancholy song from Terrance Chua done to the theme music, how sensible. Then I think Terrence Chua's mention shifted things, and we ended up moving to Cthulu songs, and I read a regency romance Cthulu story. (That ended up being the kids' bedtime story, we tucked them in after that. Fortunately I don't think they understand it yet...) Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] selenite sang "Watching Joey Glow". Sandy read a Stargate filk she'd written.

Quotes of the evening:

Karl: "Never let the GM pick the pizza when you're playing Call of Cthulu."

Sandy: "Never mock the cookie!"

Karl: "If I were a Flintstone, Yabba dabba dabba dabba dabba dabba dabba doo!"

Joe: "If you’re telekinetic and you know it, clap my hands!"

Sadly, next month will be in Houston, which I doubt we can make. I expect we'll host more of them in the long run, though.

I didn't even know there was a new Doctor Who series. Fascinating.

Maggie is quite the smart little cookie! No surprise, considering her parentage.
