Coffee can?

Dear flist - I am currently being rather tempted by Nantasket Basket. The slip-stitch woven-look version. I actually have stash yarn that would work nicely for it, so I may mail off the $ and get the pattern.

I emailed with some questions, and one of the things the pattern designer said about the felting blocking was "I used a large coffee can for the baskets".

I don't own a large coffee can. We don't drink coffee. I keep the little coffee singles things on hand for when my mother-in-law, who does drink coffee, visits. I occasionally bake with instant coffee in a recipe, which is in a small glass jar.

Anybody reasonably nearby have an empty coffee can I can have?

Do you ever have occasion to buy a number 10 can of vegetables? Or know someone (like a school lunch person, or maybe a fast food person) who does? They're pretty close to the same size.

Does it need to be metal? My workplace goes through a frightful amount of coffee, but these days, the three-pound "can" of coffee is made of plastic.
I think I have a metal coffee can or two around, if a little rust is better than plastic :)

Plastic ought to work fine, as long as it's sturdy enough to block felt around.

Lutherans are famous for drinking coffee. Bet they buy it in big cans, too. Just a thought.

Oh, there's an idea. And one I didn't think of at all. I miss out on having such things occur to me, since I'm not a coffeedrinker myself.
