celticdragonfly: (River - I'll knit - from Firefly)

I got a call from my mom, [livejournal.com profile] bkseiver, earlier today. She'd been out at the Baton Rouge FestForAll arts festival, despite the rain, and saw someone spinning. She went over to pet the yarn, and found the lady was doing a demo. They got to talking, comparing handknit socks and such, and the lady said she was halfway through the Fluted Banister Socks. Mom said oh yes, those were her daughter's socks. The lady then realized who Mom was, and that she'd emailed with her online, and said "Oh, I know who you are, you're Laura's mother!"

So Mom wanted to call and let me know that I'm known and people are knitting my sock. Oh man. That's great. I'm reminded of the bit in the Bujold books with Miles wanting someday for someone to make note of Aral not for himself but because he was Miles' father!

On the knitting front, I got the bigger needle for the throw. Other knitters, do not be afraid of math - math let me figure out that no, the size 10 wouldn't do it, I actually needed the size 10.5. So that way I saved myself money and only had to do 2 gauge swatches, not 3 or more. So now the Meadow Sweet Throw is cast on and working away. 177 stitch cast on. I didn't want to do long-tail with that one, that's for sure, so at Mom's advice I tried the crochet cast on. I like that one, I expect I will use it again, for things that don't need to go into ribbing.

Whee! What a nice ego boost for you.

I am looking forward to pictures of your finished throw, it sounds lovely.

What a fun moment--and an admirably apt Bujold quote! You should post this on the main list, for general enjoyment [not to mention general on-topicness].
