Weekend update
May. 9th, 2005 12:31 pmFriday was
selenite's off day, so we and the kids went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens again. Wandered the rose gardens, let the kids run around in a meadow, went back to the Japanese Garden and fed the fish again. We had a pretty good time.
Maggie saw 4 or 5 brides being photographed, and was quite determined that they were kings, Kings! Look, a king! The tiara and veil, you know. Although there was one that really looked more like one of those doll cakes, her skirt was sooo puffed out and fluffy. Oh, that's right, I was telling
selenite that and he wasn't familiar with those,

Saturday morning I had a knitting class on finishing techniques. Ended up being just me with the instructor/store owner. That was nice, because then we could do things like get to Kitchener stitch/grafting, confirm oh yeah, I know that, we can skip that. It was useful, I'm very glad I took it.
Then later that afternoon it was off to the Millerdome for the ORAC meeting. Much later that afternoon. Sigh. We left late and had various delays on the road and got there very late. Completely missed the meeting. But we did get to socialize with people we're fond of.

Date: 2005-05-09 09:44 pm (UTC)There is nothing more entertaining than a hoop skirt on someone who doesn't know how to wear it. The ones who didn't trip were funnier, because half of them would reach down, grab the edge of the hoop, and hike it up, not seeing/realizing just how high it hikes. So the first view anyone at the top of the stairs has of her is her thighs and the underside of her skirt.
And then the fashion went to slinky/high cut prom dresses. Sigh.
Yeah.
But there is something to be said for soft layers of cotton petticoats, both an innocent sensuality in the sussurus of sound, the whisper of skirts on movement and a grace forced by boning and the swing of weight around one's ankles.
I'll admit to a weakness for summer picnics and eyelet lace petticoats. I'm a traditionalist.
But I'm not (personally) fond of layered ruffles. 8-)

Oh, I love layers of skirts, rustling around you, and the feel of the swinging weight. I'd wear more if I could find more. I'd like more skirts and dresses, as long as they're long, full ones. I like ruffles.
This particular dress, however, was overdone.
