When I first saw the headline I thought, "yeah, if you throw a guy into a patch of kudzu, it'll take him forever to get out and he won't be drinking for a while."

Kudzu use - see Iron Chef

Yea, every once in a while they use Kudzu starch on Iron Chef. Go figure!

And it's stabilizing the gullies in Natchez, MS all by itself!

And my first thought was...Kudzu? Isn't that a kind of African antelopey thing? What does it do, kick the beer out of your hand?

And then I read the article. We don't have Kudzu Vines up here. Now it makes sooooooo much more sense!

Hey, it has plenty of use! It's a ground cover that helps slow erosion. It's just a really, really invasive one.

Helps slow erosion, or may possibly create it, if it gets hold of, say, your fence or house...

Bill read about an experiment done at one of the (As I remember, buit it's been years) Disney locations (I think Epcot Center, but my memory of things is fuzzy). Seems they were chopping down the stuff, cutting it into manageable chunks and tossing it in the containment ponds.

One of their staff did some testing and discovered it was taking out all the heavy metal imputities in the sludge and muck. So they started putting it in on purpose. And it worked GREAT. They just had to remove the mess and treat it as hazardous waste, but it was less difficult than dealing with the mass of sludge and sewage and cheaper too, especially given as they had not problem finding sources of free supply of the stuff.

Not surprised to find it can remove impurities from other liquid sources, I'd just be worried ity was taking much needed nutrients and things along with it.

It's probably the vile taste that sobers them up...

But my real concern is that people from other parts of the country don't know about kudzu dinosaurs.
