When I first saw the headline I thought, "yeah, if you throw a guy into a patch of kudzu, it'll take him forever to get out and he won't be drinking for a while."
Bill read about an experiment done at one of the (As I remember, buit it's been years) Disney locations (I think Epcot Center, but my memory of things is fuzzy). Seems they were chopping down the stuff, cutting it into manageable chunks and tossing it in the containment ponds.
One of their staff did some testing and discovered it was taking out all the heavy metal imputities in the sludge and muck. So they started putting it in on purpose. And it worked GREAT. They just had to remove the mess and treat it as hazardous waste, but it was less difficult than dealing with the mass of sludge and sewage and cheaper too, especially given as they had not problem finding sources of free supply of the stuff.
Not surprised to find it can remove impurities from other liquid sources, I'd just be worried ity was taking much needed nutrients and things along with it.
