Jamie Kevin just passed his hearing screening with flying colors. Yay!

I didn't think he had any problems with his hearing, but it's nice to have it confirmed officially. This was to rule out any problem for the speech therapists. Given how they were thanking me sincerely for bringing him in, I am guessing that there are parents out there who kick up a fuss about doing the hearing screening. I cannot figure out WHY.

Last time both of Maggie's therapists were there, so one went in with her and I sat in the control room with Jamie. They weren't there this time, so Maggie had to sit on a chair in the test room. We put her behind me, so Jamie couldn't see her, and she only spoke once, she was very quiet and well-behaved, I'm proud of her.

Oh, and I told her that her grandma was coming to visit in three weeks. She's excited. Tried to negotiate sooner - "How about two?" she said.

Personal curiousity - are you guys coming to FenCon this weekend? I'm totally looking forward to it, and would love to see you guys again.

Oh, absolutely! We're excited about it. I've started packing, and the big Packing Push is tonight. We'll be going over Thursday night after Karl gets off work. We'll be staying through to Sunday. Glad you're coming. When are you heading up? Do you have rooms already?

We're hoping to leave here on Friday after her class at 3. We have a room for Friday and Saturday nights.

Marvelous. Go be good and get all packed and loaded so you can head straight out. I'm glad to hear you have a room, as they're all booked up. Might be a good idea to call and reconfirm. We did that a week or so ago.

Hm, check and make sure you're not taking a route that's a major Houston evacuation route.

I'm staring to think I ought to bring the laptop, in case my return flight gets rained out again. I'm out of days off!

As far north as we are, I don't think it'll be more than a strong thunderstorm here - and that will be hitting Saturday night/Sunday morning. So you're probably okay. Still, if I were you I'd bring my laptop. Especially if you have some way to go online. Useful things at cons anyway, and good just in case.

Well, remember how we got stranded last year. And that was just normal weather, not hurricane fallout. So yeah, I may bring it.

Oh, I remember it well. It WAS hurricane fallout - hurricane Ivan was going through Atlanta and that's what closed the airport. Just last year it was over Georgia, now it's coming through Texas.

Okay, and this time last year we'd only gotten up to I for Ivan, not all the way up to freaking R.

Gah. Two category 5/4 hurricanes hitting the Gulf coast in one freaking MONTH. The fun of being at the top of the cycle. Sheesh.

It is permitted to worry a little?

We got a named storm too. Apparently Monday's unseasonable rain was courtesy of Tropical Storm Max, of the Pacific sequence of course. Wheee.

Yay for Jamie, by the way.

Be well, S.

Ah, is it Max that gave y'all all the donner und blitzen? I was amazed to see the pics of that online, I only saw lightning twice during the decade-plus I lived there. I'd noted it on NOAAs page but hadn't paid much attention, I thought they usually went out the other way.

I just went and looked again. Wow, all three in the Pacific are so close together!

P. S. Given how crowded it might be & how far away food is, y'all may want to consider trucking in your own grub, in case the hotel runs out.

Well, I'm bringing some food - mostly for the kids - apples, grapes, crackers, cookies, vienna sausages. And a couple boxes of snack bars, what I picked up the habit from Joy of referring to as "rat bars".

At a minimum. Consider throwing in more, as you can find space for it. Don't forget the water bottles, etc.

Have fun at the con, but take care & keep safe too.

Oh god. I can't find space for it. I can't CARRY any more of this. Just packing this much has hurt like hell. We are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY inland, really we are! Yes, we're going to have strong thunderstorms. We have those regularly. Heck, the spring after we got here they hardly stopped. That doesn't mean the world comes to an end here, we're used to it.
