Of interviews, voting, and walks

So
selenite came home after his interview, feeling it went reasonably well. We decided to go get lunch afterwards. It was my first time eating out since the week before the surgery. I did okay, although I was getting a headache from smoke drifting over from the smoking section. We really shouldn't eat in Lake Worth again. I wasn't able to sit through the whole meal, I had to get up and go walk outside a bit twice, but I got by.
After that we went to an early voting location nearby, and both of us voted on the Texas constitutional amendments. For our fellow Texans - make sure you vote! Voting early is easy and convenient here, and I recommend it heartily. And no matter where you live, you can go to any convenient early voting location.
At the beginning of lunch, I'd been thinking how much I'd like to have
selenite all day and evening, and be able to go out and do shopping expeditions with him. I'd love to go to a bookstore, and I want to go find hair accessories for Maggie. But clearly just those two stops were wiping me out, and sitting in the car was hurting. Then on the way home the effects of the Big Pain Pill that I took with lunch were kicking in, and they made me really carsick. I had Karl pull over and stop at a little parking lot at the far end of the long creek-following park that is near our house. I decided I'd really had enough, and that Karl could take sleeping Jamie home in the van, and that Maggie and I would have a nice walk through the park instead. Dr. Vavrin had been saying I should do more walking anyway, and we had a lovely warm day with a breeze for it. Lots of sunshine for me. Karl was uneasy about it, but agreed and I put on my sunhat and took the cellphone in case of problems.
It was a nice walk. I turned it into a chance for lots of conversation with Maggie, almost a mini-early-homeschooling session. We sang songs, practiced the alphabet, practiced counting. Her singing is improving. We saw butterflies, and I explained the life cycle of butterflies to her. We walked along the brand new sidewalks they're putting in, walked around the newly laid concrete, and talked about how they set up the sidewalk frames to pour the concrete. We saw bees, and I talked to her about why bees are important. We had fun. We got to the gazebo and stopped a while in the shade.
Then she said "I gotta go potty!" Eek. I had not been planning for that. She'd gone at the restaurant, after all. So I got back to walking with her as fast as I could. Just a ways north we would cross the street that splits the park, and right after that was the softball field, and there was a building with bathrooms there. IF they were open. I tried calling Karl on the cellphone, but couldn't get through - apparently the phone was off the hook. Fortunately the bathrooms by the softball field WERE open, and Maggie managed to wait. I'm proud of my Big Girl.
We resumed our walk. She decided she needed to RUN, and I let her keep running ahead of me on the sidewalk. I sent her to run ahead so she could spend a few minutes playing in the north park playground, and dawdled along so she could have a little more time there. Then we carefully walked along the part where there are no sidewalks, and came into our neighborhood and home. I think the walk was good exercise for us, and the sunlight was good for me.
Once here, I had a nice long phone chat with
patgund, which is always nice, especially considering the trickiness of the current 9 hours time zone difference. I then went upstairs and helped a bit with Karl putting away laundry.
