We had an *adventure* today!

[livejournal.com profile] selenite was off doing political volunteer stuff. I didn't want to just sit home and go stir-crazy. So I decided to take the kids to the North Texas Irish Fair. [livejournal.com profile] selenite and I (and the kids) had gone last year. [livejournal.com profile] sandy_tyras and Rhiannaon and Shawn went along with us. We had a fabulous day. Got to hear lots of wonderful music. Pointed [livejournal.com profile] sandy_tyras at the various dog rescue booths - man, I saw dogs of all sizes and shapes today, everything from Irish wolfhounds and mastiffs down to chihuahuas. Sandy loves dogs. The kids got to have fun in a bouncer thingy. Got to talk to the Cor Gaelige people about Gaelic language study groups, and tossed my email at their mailing list. Got to talk to a harpers' and harpists' group that apparently meets every month or two - I am going to get more information and see if it's something I could start going to - I'd really like to get back to my harp playing! Got to talk to a spinner and a knitter.

Got to watch the Emerald school dancers perform, oooooh, they're the ones I want to send Maggie and Jamie to when they're a bit older. The kids loved watching the dancing, they were completely rapt and applauding each performance. After that when we were in the other building later, Maggie was pulling on Sandy's arm demanding to go back and see "more dancing!" So eventually we did, and watched the Shandon school. Um. Well, the kids enjoyed it. But they're not getting sent there.

I had fun looking at all the merchants, and took one lady's card with notes for the custom piece I'd like (but am not sure I should spend the money on), but didn't actually buy anything. I was awfully tempted by the harp CD from the harp group, but didn't get it.

At one point I said to Sandy, here I am sitting on the grass on a beautiful day, eating funnel cake with good friends, listening to the band Brother play. Life doesn't get that much better than that. Our later agreed-on motto was something like "Adventures are better with funnel cake!"

When I step danced competetively, there were kids as young as 3 learning the steps. They'd get up on the stage and toddlebounce around and it was steal-your-heart cute. It also ingrained a lot of the basic steps very early on, and got them in the habit of practicing.

The iffy school had some really little ones. They were cute, but I don't think they knew what they were doing well enough to be on stage. The good school had some little ones, I think they were 5, they were adorable.

Mostly I'm hoping by the time Maggie and Jamie are old enough, we can afford the classes. And admittedly it'd be a lot easier on me if I waited until Jamie was old enough, so they could go into classes together, rather than me driving them both wayyyy the heck out to Lewisville or Arlington, then having to keep Jamie occupied while Maggie was in class.

Brother? You got to see Brother??? I'm so jealous! I got to see them once at Cal State Fullerton, and, if it's the same group, they're amazing. Four Aussie guys and digeridoos?

Yep, that's them. We used to see them out in Los Angeles at the Irish Fair.

OH man! I can't find a website for them, and I've managed to lose my copy of "Pipe Dreams" somewhere along the way. I'm SO jealous! They were great when I saw them.
