I'm looking at the Tea Rose color Cotton Fleece yarn I have to make a dress for Maggie out of. Looks like this dress is the one I'm going to do:

I'm trying to decide what color beads to go with - try to find a contrasting pink? Lilac? White?

Also wondering if I should order them to be mailed to me, or if anybody knows of a good place in the DFW area that sells size 6 glass seed beads? I don't know much about beads. Points for being on the FW side of things.

Hobby Lobby carries that? Excellent. I can do that.

The only bead place I know of is solidly on my side of the world -- Beadworks, Coit at ... I want to say Arapaho.

Is size six common enough that Hobby Lobby or Joanne's might have them?

No idea. Dart seems to think so, that's good.

What about pearls?

Well, the pattern calls for seed beads, and happily gives me a SIZE. So I can go into the store and say "show me the size 6 glass seed beads". Pearls are apparently sized differently.

Pearlescent seed beads, yes.

I love that dress! I'm just about to start one for my daughter, too. I'm putting silvery-clear beads on light yellow cotton-ease.

I got my beads at Hobby Lobby, but Joann (the superstore near Ridgmar Mall) and Michael's both sell them. Also, there's a really nice bead store in SW Fort Worth on Granbury Road, a few blocks south of I-20. It's kind of pricey compared to craft stores, but they have a terrific selection. It's called the Artful Bead: http://www.artfulbead.com/index.html The staff there are really friendly and helpful! But, be warned, the beads are loose in open, divided display cases (not bags like the craft store) that sit at about table height - shiny, sparkly stuff within reach is very tempting for young fingers, at least for my daughter. (She's nearly four, as well.)

Okay.

Yesterday I was on my way out to Euless, so we stopped by the Rufe Snow store. Where they managed to REALLY piss me off. I know I don't really know from beads. But I have gotten a good enough idea that "size 6 glass seed bead" is a pretty specific set of requirements. It ought to be enough to get me led to the seed beads. But noooo. I got this absolute idiot man who was trying to ask me "but what kind do you want?" "Size Six Glass Seed Beads". Then he was trying to tell me that I wanted 6 mm - I have figured out that with seed beads, bigger numbers apparently means smaller beads, so I know that's wrong. Total idiot. If he didn't know from beads, saying "I don't know from beads, let me get you someone who does", that would have gotten my respect. I walked out in a huff, which was annoying since there'd been other stuff I was planning to shop for, too.

(http://www.northwestjournal.ca/IV2.htm) refers to "modern size 6 (4mm) seed beads", among a lot of other info on beads that I didn't know. 4 millimeters looks like just over an eighth of an inch, according to the ruler in my desk drawer.

Oops

Oops. Forgot the link to the website I was quoting. Here (http://www.northwestjournal.ca/IV2.htm). It doesn't have much to do with your project but it did explain a lot about bead sizes.

The dress pattern looks nice; I'm sure Maggie will look cute in it
