Goth hedgehog mice

I sent the link to a friend and it evolved into this conversation

HIM: The hedgehog mouse is *cute*!

ME: yes it is
ME: "hedgehog mouse" sounds like some sort of hybrid species, doesn't it?

HIM: A bit, yeah. :)

ME: Not sure why anyone would *want* to make a hedgehog mouse. Not like it sounds like a popular new pet species or anything

HIM: Maybe they like spiky things, but want a mouse, too, with room for only one pet?

ME: well, a mouse hedgehog would be smaller, so I suppose if someone liked spiky things but had only room for a small cage
perhaps they've bred them to be naturally dyed black, and they're marketed as goth apartment pets.
they've got the "curl up miserably" part down

HIM: *laugh*

ME: if they came with individualized angsty poems...

HIM: My mother hurt my father / such is the way of things / life is pain

ME: the goths don't know it, but they've bred them to be naturally deaf, so that goth music doesn't bother them, no matter how loud it's played. And if it seems like the pet is ignoring the goth, well, they'll just take that as more proof that the world hates them.
and then they'll pet it and bleed on it.

HIM: *laugh*

Pygmy Hedgehogs are already pretty small. Perhaps the breeders need to consider this as another marketing opportunity.

Sadistic breeders would sell the food with occasional caffeine pills in it so that randomly your pet wants to run marathons on the wheel or whatever, disrupting your guitar strumming and incense burning while you ponder the infinite paths of the universe.
