The fancy cabled socks are on hold until I find a good smaller cable needle.

Instead I've cast on some variegated blue Trekking yarn, and am making a spiral rib sock. I remember someone at the monthly knitting get-together last month (I missed this month for a gaming session) was doing something like this, and I may or may not have correctly remembered what she was doing, but this will work out.

The two questions I still need to answer are a) do I continue the spiral rib pattern down the top of the foot? I usually do continue patterns on the top of the foot, not sure how it will work with this one, and b) when I make the second sock, do I make it an identical twin with a shift-left spiral, or do I make it a mirror twin and do a shift-right spiral?

variegated blue Trekking yarn

Is this what they make Science and Medical Officer uniforms out of?

The spiral-cabled socks that [livejournal.com profile] xrian made for me are spiraled all the way down the foot and have mirror-image spirals on the different feet. But that's the limit of my knowledge on the topic.
