Filk-related quote

While poking through Pratchett looking for a quote today, I found this one, which I think pretty well summarizes me at a filk:
Lancre's only other singer of note was Nanny Ogg, whose attitude to songs was purely ballistic. You just pointed your voice at the end of the verse and went for it.

Date: 2006-10-18 05:00 pm (UTC)I'd like some voice training, very very much. That's why I tried to go into the church choir last fall. But the director wasn't giving any training - just said "can you read music" ('yes, although my sight reading is slow'), "what are you, soprano, alto?" ('um, well, I sing low, but I'm not sure what'), "okay, sit with the altos, sing!". Serious sink-or-swim stuff. Never seemed to take into account that "I can read music" doesn't mean "I know how to make my voice do the same sort of thing that the piano or harp would." If I showed up to play, oh, trombone, they wouldn't think that reading music was all I needed to know, they'd realize I needed to be taught to play the instrument. Sigh. This is the main reason I quit.
Also, choir rehearsal is across from my network's weekly movie night - and even if I was willing to keep showing up really late, Karl wasn't, and I'd have the kids with me...
I would like to get some voice training sometime. Unfortunately, current circumstances seems to mean it will keep getting postponed indefinitely.
