On the last question - I turned to Karl and said "our floor isn't actually sagging from the weight of the bookshelves, but that's because" and he chimed in in chorus with me "the house has a concrete slab!"

BUT - when we moved into this house, there were some built-in bookcases, which I started loading up. One of the shelves started sagging - I had to run out and get new support in order to use it. :<}
