Okay, the old digital camera seems to have died as a result of the move trip. We need to get a new one - we'll want to send out pictures of the new baby really soon. (please, please, please make it soon...)

Anyone want to offer advice on what kind to get? I do want one that hooks up to the PC easily, preferably via USB port. Should be not too expensive, fairly easy to use. Hm, wonder if I can cannibalize the extra memory card from the old camera.

One annoying thing about the old camera I'd like to avoid is that you had to hold the button down a Long Time before it took a picture - which made life difficult once Maggie got mobile.

I can tell you one NOT to get! Any of the Sonys that write to a CD. It seems like a cool idea to have that much pic storage, but the drives tend to go bad and they DON'T support their product. They just tell you to send it in with $139! And from what I've seen on the net, the repair goes bad too!

Anyway, I will be watching with interest to see what people suggest to you.

My family has a Kodak DC240C that they got probably 4 years ago that's pretty good, if not the best you can get for the size/weight now.

I strongly advise that you get one with a Compact Flash card (that's the standard pretty much now, there are others but they're more expensive/per MB I think) and a CF adapter, either usb or ready to install from your case. Because in ALL GOOD cameras, you can just plug the card in to your computer, bypassing the camera and copy directly to your hard drive. No fiddling with settings or annoying programs, and much faster.
