Baby update
Jun. 13th, 2007 10:03 pmToday has been a lovely day with the baby. I woke up feeling good. Sure, I still have sore parts, and coughing this morning was not fun, but still, I feel SO much better. So much more ME again, and not scared and weakened any more, and cheerful about it all. Sure, she's going to make life chaotic and sleep difficult and all that, but hey, I still feel cheerful.
Oh, another lovely thing - the prayer shawl ministry at church made a shawl for me, I hadn't known they were. Mary Bakke brought it over yesterday. It's a lovely soft rectangle, of blues and pinks. I shall take it as a soft wrap when we take her to church. So nice.
Tara, the intern at church, came over to meet Alanna and visit today, that was really nice, too.
This evening our midwife Lisa came over with Kelsey, one of the apprentices, to do the two-day check. (They have to do it *before* 48 hours nowadays, apparently, for the state-mandated test.) Everything's looking pretty good. Her cord is fine, no signs of jaundice at all, looks like a healthy robust girl. I was able to report she's nursing well. And I'm doing fine too. We did have another one of the "unusual but not a problem" things - they can hear a systolic heart murmur on her. These are not rare in babies, and usually close up by 48 hours, which we aren't quite at yet, so I'm not worried. We'll check her next week probably and see if it goes away. Certainly her color has been good, and I haven't seen her lips go blue as she cries or anything, and I've been warned to keep an eye out, and I expect it'll be fine. The worst part of the visit, of course, is the heel stick for the state blood tests, poor baby. But we got through that and nursed her afterwards. I had a lovely chat with the midwife about the birth. I told her that I figured a hospital would have turned it into a c-section. Her opinion was that a hospital would have gotten nervous at her sleeping ultrasound last Saturday and have probably taken me straight from the ultrasound into an OR. I'm so happy to have avoided an unnecessary c-section!
We rearranged things in the living room this evening. The recliner is in the library, and we probably should put me in it now and then and make sure I get some more horizontal time, but my computer desk is back to the usual orientation with the desk chair and footstool at it. I can actually type two-handed with the keyboard on the desk, when she lets me have both hands, and I can mouse right-handed when she's not nursing on the right side. Whee! Feels so nice. It also means I can get to a lot more of my desk and have reduced the chaos that it had become. This pleases me much. She's snuggled in against my chest now, after a couple of nursing and burping sessions.
