little cowboy

So tonight we got Brendan his birthday present from us. A pair of brown cowboy boots, and a brown wool hat. The hat is a bit big - it fits me, too. But a medium was the smallest I could find in brown. They had a small, but it was in black, with the little silver ornaments on the band. Not only would it not go with the boots we picked, it looked like it belonged to The Villain from The Melodrama. [1] And the kid has enough of a tendency to be fascinated with the bad guy as it was. So okay, we'll share the hat.

He is currently running in circles from kitchen to library to foyer through edge of living room back into kitchen and repeat, in the boots and hat, chanting something like "ride 'em cowboy!" Maggie is watching from behind the baby gate and giggling a lot.

[1] Even if no one else understands this, Mom will. Popcorn!

Well, there, you see? That's right, we now have nearby railroad tracks. So I have to make SURE he doesn't turn himself into The Villain!

Western Day at school on Friday. I'm going to put him into his boots, and an outfit of black corderoy pants and a plaid shirt that relatives sent him for Christmas. Dunno about the hat for school.
