So today I had the landscape people (a little family company, apparently) come out and give me a price for 'cleaning up' - since the house was empty all last summer, the bushes and such have gotten pretty bad. And I want the old gardening beds and the compost pile removed from the back yard - nice idea, but with 3 kids, 2 under 2, I am not going to be doing any gardening right now. Maybe someday. And I'd rather remove the splinter hazard for the kids. At the guy's advice, the ivy up front is going to go - too damaging to the house. The southern jasmine along the front wall isn't really designed to grow along a wall - but Karl likes it, so the guy's going to try trimming it rather than yanking it out. The cold may damage it, we'll see. They'll come out next week to do all this and mow, and it should be nice.

Well, let's see, where are you... eek, I doubt they work in Arkansas. We lucked out - they put a flyer out in the neighborhood. I definitely need a gardener - where we were renting in California, we had no back yard, a tiny front yard, and mowing service came with the rent. We don't even own a mower.

Hey, you're from Michigan! Where in Michigan? And your spouse from Jersey? Wow. I was born in Lansing, moved to Summit, NJ from age 3-6, went to 2 years of high school in Morristown, NJ, and went to college in East Lansing.

Well...no gardener I suppose for me anyway! Darnit!! : )

I'm originally from Buchanan Michigan which is the Southwestern corner of the state. Hubby is from West Orange, NJ. We ended up here through the military but have stayed because the economics are good here. Oh well. How do you like TX?

I love the open spaces, less crowded roads, and I LOVE the housing prices. And I'm glad to be closer to my family. (Baton Rouge.)

Still getting used to the wind here. And I miss some friends from California. But overall it's pretty good.

Glad to hear the ivy is going - I concur, it damages the morter. Enjoyed reading the exchange about West Orange - did ambulance runs in that area. That was on the fringe of our territory. Also had classmates in EMT-P classes at Union County College in Cranford. NJ only had one school in the north part of the state, and a second in the south. But I digress. Glad the jasmine is staying.

Well, the jasmine is staying IF it survives being trimmed in the cold weather. Jasmine, meet Darwin.

In the spring we will see about adding more stuff out front, maybe lilac bushes. If I can afford it. Karl is grumbling at the price for lawn mowing, and the recommendation for weekly, not biweekly, since we have Bermuda grass. He wants to go biweekly, and says at that price we can look a little scruffy.

I wish I thought we had a prayer of teaching Brendan to mow the lawn someday.
