So we recently got one of the Muppet DVDs, which includes one of my favorites, with Harry Belafonte. [1] And I'm very pleased about this.

Last night we were talking about the Muppets, and I told [livejournal.com profile] selenite that Brendan was clearly the Swedish Chef. We agreed thet [livejournal.com profile] selenite is Bunsen Honeydew. As the harried one in the middle trying to make sure everything gets done, I'm Kermit. And Maggie is clearly Miss Piggy. We'll have to wait and let Jamie grow up a bit and then he can audition for his part.

[1] I love the Harry Belafonte number Turn the World Around with the cool African mask muppets. I'd adapted a piece of that as a circle chant years ago. We found out the local CUUPS group had a chant workshop after their last business meeting, which we missed, and I was kinda wondering if I'd have enjoyed it (that or been horrified), and thinking about sharing the chant. We could just see it: "Where did you get that?" "Oh, the Muppet Show". That would have gone over pretty strangely.

I have seen that Harry Belefonte number reduce tough full grown goth boys to tears. Seriously.

I think the Harry Belafonte episode is the best Muppets Show ep ever, and that's saying a lot. That mask number just sends chilld sown my spine.

The Harry Belafonte episode is part of Thomas's bedtime routine! We're at the point where if it's really late, I can just play "Turn the World Around", and once it's done he heads for the bathroom to brush his teeth.

I kinda want to be Gonzo myself, but by life situation I'm more Kermit too.

It's definitely my favorite. Leaves me with a tremendous faraway smile.

Do you spin him around on the "turn the world around" part? I used to do that with Brendan.

Haven't really done that, although I've occasionally done a folk-dance variant with Thomas on my shoulders during that song.
