Toddler shoes

So a couple of weeks ago Karl came home from the unitarian church with a pair of toddler shoes. Black leather-look boot things, with zippers up each side. I asked WHAT was with those? He said Lee Ann, who runs the nursery, had given them to him thinking they'd fit Maggie, and if they didn't, bring them back and she'd find another home for them.

I looked at them and said well, even if they fit her, I'd never dress her in those, so might as well take them back.

Sadly, Maggie had already seen them. And for some reason, adores them.

She found them again this morning and is insisting on wearing them. Okay. I knew my decisions on what she is and isn't to wear were going to get challenged, but I didn't expect it this soon. I guess it's right that Twohood is a preview of the teenage years. I can live with these boots for now, although if she steps on my bare toes again with them, they may just get Disappeared. They're like little jackboots.

Could these help with the toe walking?

I am thinking about it. With much dismay. This is my little cuddlebug here we're talking about!

All the shoes I get for her are designed to help with the toe walking, although admittedly we've been spending much of the summer barefoot together. As the weather cools I'll need to get her into shoes more often. At the moment "shoes" and "we're going OUT" are about the same thing to her.

I need to find shoes for Jamie, too - I know where I'd go for them in Redondo Beach, but not here. I'm going to be a bit sad when it gets cold enough for that. He has such expressive busily-talkative wiggly feet.

Someone gave Katie a pale pink pair of cowboy boots when she was about 3. They were already JUST fitting her, so of course she outgrew them quickly.

She cried and cried, and kept trying to wear them 'til they were gone - then she kept looking for her.

I couldn't find any like them, of course, and nothing else would do.

Of COURSE she loves them!

She loves Brendan's boots, so of COURSE she loves these.

I, too, pined for some shoes I outgrew at about this age. Only mine were black patent leather Mary Janes. LOL!

Spring green patent leather mary janes! I had this beautiful abstract flowery print dress in the same green and yellows with fabulous medieval poofy-topped sleeves that my Mom had made that matched the shoes. I remember the shoes were size 13.

I wore both the dress and shoes to rags.

Make sure that you don't have them in the house when you have bare feets? (It's our rule -- even plain old sandals hurt my bare toes!) Don't worry, she'll outgrow them soon enough.

When she does, see if you can get her to like the kind with the flashy bits. That's how we got the minx to un-fixate on the sandals that weren't in her size...
