So - there is this fannish thing,
Sweet Charity, in which fans sign up to auction themselves and their skills off to raise money. The current go-round is to benefit the Writer's Guild Foundation.
jenna_thorn posted about it here and helpfully explained things to me.
MOST of what's on there is for people to donate their skills in the area of writing, graphics, and video. But there's some fabric arts, jewelry, food and drink, and miscellaneous on there too.
Signups go until the 17th, and the auction is the 18th until the 26th.
I'm thinking of signing up. It's a cause I don't mind supporting. And honestly, I could use a bit of a revitalizing in my fiber arts right now.
- The Cherie Amour sweater is on hold - I've figured out that I need to get measurements taken and do the figuring on how to customize it with short-rows through the bust, and I'm dreading that.
- I was all gung-ho about a sock pattern I was designing, in three sizes, and that
bkseiver was test-knitting one of the sizes for. It was meant to be a sock to either stretch the capabilities of a relatively inexperienced sock knitter, OR expand the possibilities for a really conservative sock wearer/recipient, for a bored knitter. I'd said that it seemed like a simple idea, like it ought to be out there already, but I'd never seen that stitch pattern before. Turned out -
bkseiver just got a new sock book from the library, and there was a sock in it pretty much the same as mine. So oh well, dump that idea. - I'm working on a baby hat for a friend's baby - a pattern I designed for Alanna, that fit her well in worsted - but she had what I think was a really big head for a newborn, so I'm trying to redo it in DK weight to see if that will fit a regular newborn, and then I could write THAT up and try to publish it - but I haven't heard back on the baby's head size, and in any case, can finish that off pretty quickly.
All in all, I'm feeling a bit dispirited about my work, and could use some enthusiasm.
So - what I'm thinking I could offer up - I recently came across a pattern for a filet crochet
Seal of Rassilon. (Go ahead, follow the link, look it up - I had to, even though I do enjoy Dr. Who stuff, I am no expert.) I could do that.
( Picture of ones the pattern creator has done behind cut )I'd already contacted the pattern designer to ask if I could do that for auctions - I was thinking of doing one up for Interfilk. She was fine with that. I could offer to do one in the color of the buyer's choice.
Or, you know, I could offer something else. Various people are offering scarves, one person mentioned socks. I could knit a lace bag, maybe, I've done that before. I like the idea of doing a specifically fannish thing, and most of what else I've seen is stuff like crocheted Daleks, and I dislike work with a lot of seaming.
So, what do people think?
